There was the TNG episode "The Outcast" that focused around the concept of GLB, but I never realized this about Berman and never thought about it until now.

I'm sorry for the necro-threading here, but I have to comment: Smiley, you mentioned something that happened with Vulcan in your opening post. You made the post 5 days after the movie had opened, and posted no spoilers, no warnings, no nothing about what you were about to say.
I'm a Trekkie. Still haven't seen the movie, going to be seeing it with friends, at home, on a nice tv, with a nice sound system, a few days after it comes out on Blu-Ray. When I first read this thread, I'd lost track of how long the movie had been out.
A few minutes ago, I was complaining to a friend that I knew of what you mentioned thanks to you, and then noticed the date. Five days after the movie opens, and you post a major spoiler with no warning that was coming. You took away from me a major emotional impact point in the movie.
There's really nothing left to say. I won't even throw in a sarcastic thanks for it.

In which case, please point me to a trailer that identified that Vulcan was destroyed. Since I watched all the trailers, and even read quite a few of the stories printed about the movie, but never knew about this until your post.
I knew there was a planet destroyer. I knew planets were destroyed. I did not know that Vulcan was among them, and in fact would never have expected it as this would be one of those "safe" planets (since nothing of consequence ever changes in Star Trek, and Vulcan was pretty damned important).
I was hardly uninformed about the movie, or who was in it, or what was going on. But reading your post left me feeling quite robbed.
