That I wrote something stupid and got temp banned

I've been improperly banned before at other forums, but this is the first time that I can remember where I deserved it.

I'm blanking on exactly who I ad hominem-ed. But to that person, I'm sorry. I should have stated my opinions of your beliefs without such childish name calling.

We are on a forum in which we are allowed to state opinions. But then we have fear that we will banned. Makes no sence to me. But I can see being talked to about the name calling, but a temp ban? Did he get a warning to knock it off? Or was je just temp ban?

There's no reason for you to fear being banned as long as you're respectful of other members. One can easily express their opinions openly without breaking the Site Rules.

Here's the applicable paragraph of the Site Rules:

Respect your fellow members. You can take a person's idea to pieces and insult that if you like, but you will not insult or belittle your fellow forumers. "That idea doesn't work because..." is fine. "You're a moron if you believe that" is not. "That's a moronic idea" is borderline. No ad hominem attacks, please.

Sometimes, like in Flyn's case, we let our emotions get the better of us. It can happen to all of us sometimes. My best advice is to read your argument over carefully before posting, to make sure that you haven't allowed yourself to slip into personal attacks or name-calling. It can happen in the heat of the moment. Sometimes just taking a step back and thinking about how you're coming across is all that's necessary.
