  • Smirnoff - Drink Responsibly...My Ass

These Smirnoff commercials have gone beyond complete stupidity. The first one I saw involved a bunch of people drinking Smirnoff, then breaking onto a golf course and setting up a massive slip and slide on one of the holes and playing on it while the holes are watered by the sprinklers. Then the Smirnoff company goes to say drink responsibly.

Second commercial I didn't see the entire thing, but it looked like more of the same, breaking and entering, goofing off doing really stupid shit. Followed by "Drink responsibly".

Uh, what the fuck? What part of either commercial has ANYTHING to do with drinking responsibly?

Could only find the link to the first one. The second ad I mentioned was first seen by me tonight so maybe it's not on youtube yet.

Drink Responsibly is just something they tack on to make the useless bureaucrats that run government and the smug know-it-all liberal community like them slightly more than other alcoholic beverage-makers.

BS from beginning to end, just like most any commercial.

I've seen those too. Not only are they NOT "drinking responsibly," but the kids in the commercial look like they're in high school! I don't know many people over 21 that would actually use a golf course as a slip 'n slide. I hate to sound like an angry parent because I'm a young adult myself; but it only encourages underage drinking.

Or stupid college kids in general. Or stupid adults in general. I'm certainly not a fan of the "Greek" system since I feel it promotes elitism and because of the hazing and other crap that goes on, but sororities and frats don't have the monopoly on "college kids doing stupid crap".

At my college, most bad stuff involves frats and sororities. Majority of our rapes were at frats. Majority of muggings were people coming back from frat/sorority parties. We had a stabbing at one of the parties at my school. It was a frat. They don't encourage good behavior, that's for sure.

Well, yes, I do stand corrected. Lots of college kids do stupid shit like that. But not all college kids are of drinking age. I think it all goes back to the whole issue of why the drinking age isn't lowered to 18. If all the 21+ students in college can so easily provide it to the younger students, then what's the point of having a 21 y/o drinking age? I'll leave it at that, since I think there's been a few threads about drinking age already.

Going back to the OP, though, I completely agree. It's like saying: "Look how much over-the-top fun you can have while drinking Smirnoff...but don't do it in real life, because we want you to drink responsible..."

Personally, it would take more than a 6 pack of that chilled piss to get me drunk enough to do something like that.

Ditto, I know for a fact it takes more than that.

I really have to wonder, why are people drinking chilled piss?

All beer tastes like urine to me.
I hate the taste of alcohol itself. The very concept of people drinking, because they like it rather than as a means to an end seems unnatural.

Whereas to me, the very concept of engaging in an activity for the express purpose of diminishing their mental capacity (ranging from getting drunk to getting high, and beyond) seems unnatural.
