It did at first to me, and I was somewhat of a beer snob (not that I care, I'll still drink the better stuff 90% of the time). But when I'm out with some friends looking to do some heavy drinking, when it comes down to a beer that's $4 and a beer that is $2, I will most of the time choose the cheaper beer. I dunno, it kinda was just an aquired taste for me. After awhile, I learned to actually like the taste.

Well, before I found my Paxil, I was plagued by horrific anxiety and other related physical problems. Alcohol made them better for an hour. I could easily have become an alcoholic if I didn't start out with an absurdly high tolerance, and didn't hate the taste so freaking much.
Buzzed is nice without any lasting effects for most people. Epicureanism rather than hedonism... maximizing pleasure while minimizing pain. That's the point of life.

And personally, I value my mind so much that I can't imagine veiling it, even when I'm in pain. I was on Paxil for over a year, myself.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

Constant day in and day out pain gets a bit irritating after a while. A few drinks to numb it for an hour once in a while is not veiling the mind to some kind of drugged out incoherence. Maybe you've only seen those that drink to excess. Not everyone does that. Many simply want the buzz that barely limits critical thinking. I once beat my mom at cards while quite buzzed. She thought I was fake drinking.

Hardly. I was merely pointing out that while you couldn't imagine one side of the coin, I can't imagine the other. Personal values and experiences at play.

I've always been a beer snob. Never really cared for the taste or the bloat and gas that it can cause. Not that I won't drink it, but it's not my first choice, and really only a last resort if I'm low on cash or too drunk to care what I'm drinking anymore.

Malted beverages like Smirnoff and Mikes....those were ok when I was younger.

I prefer the harder stuff and girly drinks. Alabama Slammers are pretty much the best drink ever.

I'm definitely a bit of a beer snob. Don't get me wrong, if I'm going out to drink, I'll drink what's available, but given a choice, mixed drinks. Nothing fancy either. Maybe Rum or Jack or Turkey with some Coke....When I was younger and didn't have to work, I'd be out there doing shots. I like margaritas..you get the idea.

Cheap beers make me sick to my stomach. I just don't like the taste going down, I don't like the aftertaste, and if I'm going to get sick drinking- cheap beer is usually involved.

Now that I'm not in college anymore, I obviously drink a lot less often. My tolerance has gone down significantly, too. (I'm small- it used to shock people how much I could drink)

Probably the only time I really drink beer anymore is at hockey games and thank god our arena sells good beers!...man, I can't wait for hockey season...

What kind of beer does an American beer snob drink? I only know what Canadian beer snobs like.

                      Most non-American beers! LOL

I don't really know. I just know I don't like cheap, light, crappy beer. Yellow water /= beer.

Give me a Bass or a Killian's. OR get me to one of them home-brewery places.

Although I don't care too much for beer. I'll occasionally do a lighter ale like Fat Tire though.

I much prefer wine, specifically stuff like this. Their Pinot Noir and their Brute Rose are to die for. Nom nom...

Oregon Pinot Noirs are the best in the world. You're lucky to live so close.
