Ok, I didn't know that was allowed throughout Canada. It's still a fight to get the common law thing for gays down here in homophobia land-states.

Sadly (and to my eternal shame, and being one of the top reasons I'd like to move from this province), Alberta DID try to invoke something called the "Notwithstanding Clause" to avoid legalizing gay marriage. That was eventually dropped, though. Canada works more like a giant state and then counties/cities within it, rather than national and states like the US system. Pretty much everything overarches the entire country. Except Quebec. They're special. Or distinct. Whatever word they're using this year.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

Still orders of magnitude better than the U.S.

          How about "weird"?

Anyway, for the OP, sounds like your dad is the kind of person who the "Texas defense" should be allowed for assault.

"Texas defense" meaning "he had it coming."

Do we need another thread about assuming texans are a certain way?
I kid, because they're armed, and I don't want to die.
