  • How Dare You Be Girly!

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I have a few coworkers and acquaintances (and they stay acquaintances for that reason) who are not the most feminine of girls.....which hey, is fine. Except for some reason, they have a huge problem with girly girls and have no reservations about being vocal about it.

It gets a little old after a while. I'll sit down for a smoke break at work and one girl says "So did you go shopping this weekend?" asked in a certain tone that just irks me.

No, I don't go shopping every weekend. I cannot afford to do that. No, I didn't go shopping. And if I say "No", which I usually do, she acts all surprised.

Then there's usually some comment like "Oh, I figured that's all you ever do....don't you have more closets than Paris Hilton?"

Or when it was the weekened before her birthday and she said "I'm going camping, but I don't suppose you'd come, blas, because you think the outdoors are gross."

Yes, you're part right....but that didn't mean I'd never go.....but since you had to be so rude about it, now I'm never going

Or if my coworkers and I are having a conversation about acne or skincare, girls like her feel the need to chime in and say "I never wash my face or use special products or wear makeup, I don't need that stuff!"

Well, aren't you special. I never said there was anything wrong with girls who are lower maintenance, but there's apparently a huge problem with girls who care about their appearance and use products and wear makeup.

Sounds to me like you are just surrounded by bitches!

This is why most of my friends are males.

Slight nitpick here. Just cause a girl doesn't use product on her face or wear make-up doesn't mean she doesn't care about her appearance.

But I do get your tone and think you should lay the verbal smack-down on these close-minded twats. Idiots are idiots, no matter what form they take.

I hate the smell of make-up and perfume/cologne. But that still isn't any reason to be a bitch about it.
Honestly, the just want an excuse to be mean to you. The actual words form themselves after they decided to be a bitch, not before.
Normally, bitches just call others fat or ugly no matter how they look or how heavy they may be.

I never said she didn't care period, I said she was lower maintenance. Which, hey, I'd give anything to be able to never have to wash my face or just use soap and water and never get a break out.

I'm so jealous of people who get away with that. Meanwhile, I'm cursed with the acne of the average 13 year old, no matter how I adjust my diet or how much water I drink or how well I leave my skin alone and use the mildest products or avoid wearing makeup for too long.....ugh. Curse you, genetics. Thank you sebum....I know you work. I know you work well, now stop it.

I just don't understand why someone would pick on a girl for.....being a girl. For Pete's Sake. Especially when 5 days out of the week, I dress in jeans and a tshirt, hair usually air-dried, minimal makeup (just enough to look awake and fresh) flat shoes, etc etc.

I rarely even paint my fingernails because it always chips at work. What the hell is the big deal with liking to look like a girl, take really good care of yourself, dress nicely when you can, and dislike the great outdoors and sports? Seriously.

Not washing one's face ever is nasty. It is evidence that she doesn't care about her hygiene as much as most people with adequate access to clean water do.

You didn't say she insulted your vagina or ovaries. Did I miss it? Though I must say that you are a woman and not a girl, but I let that go as slang. I dont' like calling adults children, but that's just me.

Being feminine isn't the same as taking care of yourself, caring about your appearance, or dressing nicely. You've implied that twice in as many posts. Perhaps that attitude is also coming across in real life?

Of course, everything you've ever posted about your coworkers also indicates that they're giant douchebags.

Some of her other posts suggest that she does inflict a tiny bit of holier than thou or at least cleanlier than thou.

Also, she strongly suggests from other posts that she does work with jackasses. Jackasses will be asses no matter what you do, so it's just better to be yourself and ignore them when you can. If it gets into true harrassment, try to talk to someone higher up. That crap is illegal and should be fought.

That is exactly what I meant by my nitpick. You seem to equate the two. I'm a huge tomboy and yet I take care of myself, have clean skin and wear nice clothes. They're just not girly clothes.

Like I said, these people sounds like utter twerps who just want to pick on you, so I'd just ignore 'em and go on with life. Who cares what they think?

I will admit the though of putting on makeup makes me gag but if you want to then go ahead. I think your coworker is just being mean to you.

Or what's even better, when most of time you're low key - jeans, sweaters, t-shirts, ponytails, very little to no makeup. Then the one freakin' day you decide to wear that cute sweater with that new skirt and heels and pretty tights, and everybody flips the fuck out. *sigh* I mean, most of the time, I just don't care enough to put in the effort; quite frankly, I'd rather sleep. But it's good to get dolled up every once in a while, y'know?

You're co-workers sound like a bunch of old harpies to me.

Shouldn't matter who likes makeup and who doesn't and who washes their face how often and who goes camping and who doesn't... the OP likes do to x y z and her co-workers like to do a b c. What those things are is irrelevant - she is being passive-aggressively bullied and it's just fuckwad behavior.

People tease me every day at work, "Oh, are you walking again? With your pack? Are you training to climb another mounatin." And the tone is def **damn, this chick is weird**

And heaven forbid I do wear a cute blouse are make up..or *gasp* dye my hair.

Meh, I don't pay them mush attention...those who mock me aren't worth my cat's litter

Me, holier than thou? That's pretty rich, coming from someone who has to turn everything into a pissing contest over just whom is right and whom is wrong.

Look, I never flat out said tomboys are dirty. Do not put words in my mouth please . I may have not worded my post perfectly the first time, I do not think that tomboys and lower maintenance girls are dirtballs who don't shower, that's a whole other class of PEOPLE in general.

My general rant was about women who prefer to not wear makeup and like sports or outdoors (or whatever is the polar opposite of girly) and they feel the need to rip on girls who DO enjoy shop till you drop, wearing pink, lace, frilly things, fuzzy things, the indoors, dislike sports, dislike camping....etc, like they are superior because they aren't girly.

Um...of course everything is a contest over who's right and who's wrong. It's a debate forum.
