My best friend is lactose intolerant. It sucks because there's a lot she can't eat anymore and it affects a lot of our choices for going out.
On the bright side, I now am able to cook more things from scratch like cookies and brownies and cupcakes, etc.

I read somewhere that hypnosis is often effective for both lactose intolerance and irritable bowel syndrome. There's actual solid scientific data to back this up.
I found that amazing, since the same group of studies showed that hypnosis is completely uneffective for quitting smoking. You'd think it would have more effect on things that more psychological than physiological.
I can't find the right link right now, but I'll keep looking. Although it may not be helpful to you, Flyn, given your condition. Perhaps you could find a hypnotist to make a housecall?
Hypnotism to cure IBS and lactose intolerance? IBS maybe, but then again, IBS is what doctors tell patients when they just have no idea what's messing up someone's digestive system. Lactose intolerance is being unable to produce the enzyme that breaks down lactose. I don't see how hypnosis would change your body to make that enzyme.

Sooo...what you're saying is you're the Spleen from Mystery Men?
You can hear me from there? Yeah, there should be a word for the sheer enormous volume of flatulance my people have when eating more dairy than we should. Megafartasaurus may work. Thankfully, my poor love muffin has a strong stomach.

IBS is, in my experience, an umbrella term for several different conditions that have similar symptoms. I have one that has been diagnosed, and with a certain medication I have a trouble-free life (apart from some extra gas, which can be pretty funny).
The problem with most gut complaints is that they have very similar symptoms. The one I have is pretty rare in the diagnosing doctor's experience. He reckons that with all the patients he sees, he diagnoses it twice each year.
"I'm special!" I told him brightly, and he gave a pained look and agreed slowly.
