Stats are not hard

I have a pet peeve. I have observed it all over the place, including CS, and it really ticks me off.

People who cannot figure out a statistical trend, and discount it entirely just because their mom or their best friend's sister's dog doesn't fit the trend.

Those people make me want to reach through the monitor and beat them over the head with a calculator. You have a sample size of one! That is meaningless!

Oh wow, this one really drives me nuts too.

People live in their own little worlds. No one can see every single societal or economic trend before their very eyes. But that's really no excuse to live in a cave and refuse to educate yourself, especially in the information age.
