  • Forum newbies who 'know how it should be run'

Had to chase one of these off a while back.

Six posts, and apparently we were in the business of mind control and we had to 'get with the rest of the world'.

Fuck him. Fuck him sideways. I'm paying the piper and I - and the team - are calling the shots.

Wow. Sounds like some 13 year old EW who's on a power trip.

This is why I love this forum and CS, though. You guys don't let that kind of crap slide, even for a minute. You and the team rock, Raps.

Heh, on the forums I admin/moderate, that kind of crap happens all the freaking time, especially in the summer holidays when all the bratlings are let loose on the net.

Also, people who bug the admin, asking to be made mods when they've been members for less than a week. Argh. -.-

Just curious Raps... if it was 'a while back', why are you putting this one up now??

IMHO, if someone is asking to be made a mod, that's a damn good reason not to make them one!
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

So when do _I_ get to be a mod!?

I always thought on most message boards and games, asking to be made a mod/admin automatically gauranteed you wouldn't become one.

We don't even advertise when we're looking. We offer to unsuspecting people we've talked about in depth. It works.

He's lying. We put members' names up on a corkboard, get drunk, and throw darts. Whomever's name they hit becomes a mod.

By the way, Broom, I'm really sorry about your eye.

What Boozy's referring to here is what we call the 'scientific method'.

I'm not allowed alcohol or sharp objects after what we occasionally refer to in hushed tones as 'the dingo incident'.

Yeah, that sucked. But it was nice of you all to chip in and get me this plastic one. Changes colour, too!

in my opinion, moderating a board is a lot like politics... the people who think they would do well at it are probably the worst people to be actually doing it and the people who think that "eh, I guess I could fumble through it if I was asked to and no one else could do it" are normally the ones who do the best.

I hate modding. So far, on the site on which I moderate one of the boards, the only things that have come my way are people who are pissed I don't reward them as much as the others do, are angry at me for being a mod instead of them, or sucking up to me for generally unscrupulous reasons. At the very least there hasn't yet been much 'oh but he's not an expert' stuff, since the pervading attitude seems to be that only those supremely knowledgeable in a boards area can be mods there.

Still and all, it was a contest between me, some guy I wouldn't trust further than I could throw a tank, and some guy who wasn't around for long (think, months... like three) so I took the spot because I thought it would help.

                            Anyway, what was I saying?

Oh, right, newbie complainers. Not so many as there are veteran complainers, but I hear there are plenty of supreme overlord 13 year-old kids floating around elsewhere. Still, it's nice to help out, even if it's only a little bit.

P.S. I got to read the conversation about who would be the next board mod after I got the promotion. The guy I was against was actively asking for more responsibility, if a bit indirectly. Seemed almost like my name coming up by surprise

What I hate about being an admin is firstly people begging to be made mods, second people begging to be my friend... and finally, tons of vitriolic abuse from these people when I refuse them. -.-
