  • Lack of sleep

Ugh...I feel like I haven't gotten any decent sleep in a while. Every time I do go to sleep its interrupted by something dumb or unforseeable but still just annoying. Now I'm afraid to go to sleep because I hate having it so frequently interrupted.

I need to go find a cave in the mountains somewhere, and hope no one can find me there. Catch some zzz's then.

I definitely understand where you're coming from on this one. It's been a few months since I've been able to get a decent night's sleep. Usually it's due to the cats mewing at nothing or the neighbor's kids banging around in the middle of the night. I can't seem to stay asleep long enough to get the right amount of deep sleep.

I've tried sleep aides, both prescription and otc, as well as Tylenol PM. I've tried warm milk and honey, warm decaf tea, meditation, and making sure the bedroom is as dark as it can be. All to no avail. I can't close the door to the bedroom because the kitties will claw at the door thus waking me up anyway.

I must get up about 5-6 times a night. I have reached the end of my rope and have started to sleep on the couch whenever there is a moment of peace.

It sucks majorly and I hope that you are more successful at catching those elusive z's than I have been.

If noise is the problem, I suggest a white noise machine, air filter or fan. Generally, having a low background noise can help to drown out the random noises throughout the night and contribute to a good night's sleep. I know I wouldn't be able to make it through the night with my upstairs neighbours baby being colicky without my air filter.

I always sleep with a fan on - the main problem is just so much going on. Like last night - my wife and I decided to go out and we got back reallllllllllllllly late - like almost dawn - and then after like 3 hours of sleep we remembered we had to be somewhere. Which sucked. But it happens a lot.

We have that problem too. Our cats always sleep with us. Sometimes they wake us up a couple times a night, sometimes more, sometimes none at all. Generally it's not too bad. If one of us is really really tired or sick, or if the cats have just been annoying for a couple of days straight, we'll lock them in the room we have their litterbox in. If we just locked them out of our room, we'd have the same problem as you -- they'd sit and claw and meow at the door, and they can get REALLY LOUD when they're upset. Putting them in the spare bedroom (which actually is still adjacent to ours, there's just no door between them) helps a lot.

I also second the idea of getting a white noise machine. I used to use a fan, but it's really dry in Texas and I was waking up with sore throats due to dryness, so we got a cool air vaporizer instead. It works great.

I have two snoring pugs who sleep in bed with us, a husband who likes to get up in the middle of the night to watch TV, and noisy neighbours. I just wear a sleep mask and ear plugs and I'm oblivious to it all.

I tend to be an insomniac sometimes. It's gotten pretty bad lately, since I've gotten in the habit of staying up late and working on things on the computer. Sometimes I just get to thinking about certain things and get wound up and can't sleep.

Recently, my aunt and uncle were staying with us while they looked for a new home, and their dog and cat stayed with us. Sometimes the dog would get into random barking spasms. I would usually get up when I heard her barking, because I suspected that maybe she wanted to be let out to use the bathroom. Often, though, she (the dog) would simply be lying on the floor barking for no apparent reason.

Sad enough, most of my lack of sleep is self-inflicted. Talking to the girlfriend until the early morning hours is not uncommon. Though she would never make me stay awake, I enjoy talking to her so much that I don't go to bed. I keep my phone on at night in case she needs anything, but unfortunately, everyone else can get a hold of me too and they do.

Sometimes I put off homework until the last minute and find myself working until late to get it done. I get up at 5:30 for work every day that I work.

Mine is self inflicted too, mostly; or it's down to work.

However, I get extremely ratty if some dickhead decides to ring me at some unearthly hour for no reason; and they will get the full extent of my wrath. -.-

Mine is frequently "self inflicted" too, but I don't see the point in going to bed if I'm not tired. And being a raging night owl, once the sun goes down its like I just drank a pot of coffee......I love the nighttime!

Two days in a row now that some asshole set the fire alarms off cause they don't know how to cook. Even the school police asked us what is wrong with us.

I've tended toward insomnia ever since I started college. *shrug* At this point, I'm just used to the fact that I don't get much sleep. It wasn't so bad in college because I could, and often did, nap in the middle of the day. Something about the mid-afternoon just makes me want to sleep right through it...especially if there's some nice sunshine to warm my muscles...*sigh*

I sleep pretty lightly and tend to dream very vividly. If something in the environment doesn't wake me up undoubtedly a nightmare or two will.

My current SO has comforted me through a few nights that I had woken up sobbing for no apparent reason. Thankfully, he's good at that- if I'm crying he will manage to soothe me in such a way that I don't fully wake up, but go right back to sleep. Once in awhile, I won't even remember him doing it.

Every other night, I'm on my own. I use DVD's to fall asleep, and often if I have a really bad nightmare I'll have to put one back on to get back to sleep.

My brain tends not to shut down, so without the mind-numbing TV noises, I tend to just dwell on stupid shit. If I'm not truly exhausted I can toss and turn for hours.

Heehee, do your pugs snore so loud that they wake themselves up sometimes? Some pug owners I know have reported that. I have a puggle and she snores, but not that loudly. I think it's the cutest thing.
