  • people that get on my nerves

Okay, first post here. I need to let off some steam about certain people that piss me off. This can be said for people online and off line. And by the way I use "You" toward the people who this stuff could apply to.

    1. People who feel the need to justify or defend someone they really like when they were obviously in the wrong, especially with regards to celebrities. Look, I understand that you don't want to think anything bad about your hero, but don't expect everyone else, even die hard fans, to feel that they are flawless in every way. It doesn't mean you have to stop liking say... Christian Bale just because of his tirade, but at the same time, he did overreact (giving youtube tons of material in the process).

    2. People who talk about how much harder they have it (or had it as a kid) to try to minimize my issues. YOU'RE NOT HELPING. Just because you have less money, stricter parents, harder work, or a combination of the three, doesn't negate my own problems. We all have different thresholds, maybe mine is just lower. Personally, I think they are just trying to put themself on a mightier level by bringing me down, the most cowardly tactic one can pull.

    3. People who use extreme examples against you in arguements. Just because I think our schools are way too strict doesn't mean I would support students being allowed to do what they please with no consequence. I just think that many of the rules are unnecessary. I see the difference between wearing a hat to school and vandalism, but perhaps you don't.

    4. People who TRY to find faults in something. I had a relative who would always be on my case over the slightest things. Forgeting to say "please" and "thank you", forgeting to pick up a candy bar wrapper, espressing the tiniest bit of displeasure, and asking my parents for anything. If that stuff reallly bugs you that much, you need help. Personally, I think they had something against my parents and were attacking me to make them look bad. Cowards!

    5. People who attack people over mispelling and then over half the thread gets turned into finding faults, ala #4. Yeah, I'm not the best speller, but as long as you can read it, don't bother attacking me. I don't want to hear "people won't take you as seriously if you can't even spell right". Screw you! It's a god damned internet forum! It's where I go to chill, not worry over whether people will take me seriously or not. I have enough of that as it is.

Well, rant over. I know there's more things like this that piss me off, but those are the big ones. Feel free to add your own.

I completely agree with you. It seems we're dealing with the same sort of idiots, you and I.

Add to that list: People who fail to recognize that the common factor in any group of situations is themselves.

ie "All my boyfriends have sucked. Therefore, all men suck."

"Every boss I have ever had hated me. Therefore, anyone in a position of authority is evil."

"I never succeed. Therefore, the world is out to get me."

The thought that they may be stupid, lazy, and have poor judgement never occurs to them.

Your post is fine, but people who have completely atrocious spelling, to the point where you need to decipher the text before you can read it? Those are the people who get on my nerves. I'm sorry, but if you can't be fucked to run a spell-check on your post to clear up the most egregious mistakes, I can't be bothered to read your post. Typos are fine, I can live with that. Happens to everyone. The occasional word consistently misspelled. Also happens. Just gets stuck in your head that way.

But when your typing is like this:

i whent too teh stor 2day becase I wad out of mi;k, an wen i got tere, thia casier wuz a totul bich to mee.

Frankly, at that point, you're just an ass. Hell, long before that point you'd be an ass. Don't give me any "I can't spell," or "I have dyslexia," or "English isn't my first language BS." I know plenty of ESL students who spell better than that, it is simply their grammar that needs work. Dyslexia? Inability to spell? Guess what? Firefox has a built-in spell check (or at least a plug-in). Opera has a built-in spell check now, and if you don't have either of those, you've probably got some word processing program that has a spell checker! Spend 5 minutes copy/pasting it. And if you don't have a word processor, then *gasp* there are in fact sites on the Internet that'll do it for free. There's options. Making your post require a freaking Rosetta Stone to decipher is not cool.

Those are the people who get on my nerves. More instalments later when I've calmed down from this one.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

What BJ said. I know it's been mentioned on this forum before, but there are a couple people on CS who I just refuse to read any thread/response made by them because it is such a chore just to decipher it.

Na, I'm talking about those like me who aren't perfect at spelling, but their posts are readable despite a few errors. (like putting only one S in a word or confusing I's and E's). In other words, people who point out individual errors in an otherwise readable post to discredit them. It's just so pointless.

People who use "net speak" get on my nerves too. If it takes over twice as wrong to read your post, you need some spelling lessons.

What gets on my nerves are people who always say "loose" when they mean "lose" or "sale" when they mean "sell".

It's sad that the way many people are on the internet, you actually have to put that disclaimer in there. I remember when I first started getting online and posting on forums back in the 90's and people were all like "You have to be careful what you say because people can't hear tone of voice!"

I always wondered why that meant "I'm going to interpret everything I read as a hostile, racist, threatening, violent, horrible statement!" Anyone remember those old BBS things you would dial up to and it was like a little mini internet? Those people were all waaaaaaaay too uptight. "Hey man, how ya doing?"

              "WATCH YOUR DAMN MOUTH!!!!!"

I get a similar thing from people I know where they talk about how other people have it hard. "Hey son, what's wrong?"

"Well dad, I just found out my wife is cheating on me, and then she kicked me out and won't let me see my son."

"Oh, GET OVER IT. You know there are some people who can't even walk! And you're sitting here, healthy and good strong legs, and there's someone who can't even walk, and you're all healthy, and they can't walk, blah blah blah..."

              3. People who use extreme examples against you in arguements. I agree that the schools are way too strict as well. Not just because strictness sucks, either. I'm reminded of a childhood example of when a kid would yell "Hey teacher, so-and-so is LOOKING AT ME!!!!!!" To which every teacher I've ever known will turn on the tattletale and say "Well if you were doing your own work instead of paying attention to him you wouldn't even notice, so I guess you don't have enough work to do. Here's extra homework."

A similar argument could be made against the schools. I mean seriously, if all you've got to worry about is that someone is wearing a fucking baseball cap or that the Nike symbol on their jacket looks vaguely like a gang sign, then seriously, you don't have enough to do. Maybe the teachers need a bigger work load so they can focus on things that are, you know, relevent. Like teaching.

              4. People who TRY to find faults in something. I had a relative who would always be on my case over the slightest things. Forgeting to say "please" and "thank you", forgeting to pick up a candy bar wrapper, espressing the tiniest bit of displeasure, and asking my parents for anything. Or people who find fault before it exists! Like the ones who correct a mistake before you make it. Back to my parents (I got issues with them can you tell? lol...) Like if someone gave me a gift for christmas, before I even had the gift in my hand, they'd both be all up in my koolaid being like "MAKE SURE YOU SAY THANK YOU! HEY GIFT GIVER, DID YOU HEAR THAT? DID YOU HEAR US TELL HIM TO THANK YOU? SO REMEMBER WHEN HE SAYS THANK YOU ITS NOT BECAUSE HE'S A POLITE YOUNG MAN, IT'S BECAUSE WE'RE A-#1 PARENTS! DID EVERYONE HEAR THAT!?"

This one makes me want to smash faces. Usually I can just read over typos and get the jist of what they meant, but this one really pisses me off because it interrupts my train of thought. Augh.

I saw a good one today, an advertisement for a 4 star spa "applicants are being sort" Seriously? You're supposed to be a really good spa, wanting qualifications out the wazoo to work there and you don't even know the word sought?

Good one! Reminds me of where I live most people don't understand that there's a letter between Q and S, and a lot of people think that's how they're really spelled and everything. For instance, "cord" (as in the volume of a stack of firewood) is "cod". Lots of people will actually spell it that way. On a receipt it will say "1 cod of firewood".

The other day I was watching Criss Angel on Oprah, and I've had a long time grudge against him for making his mother cry on his b-day when he did a fire stunt. I realized, maybe it was all set up as a distraction because that's common for magicians, to employ distraction tactics as a part of their show. So I've decided to let that go. I just felt, originally like, if I were to let him go on it it was only cause he's really hot.

Now I'm starting to see he really cares about people. Most of the stuff, like him only interacting with hot model women, probably is set up for his shows, so that really isn't him being a snob it's more like an image thing. I feel much better now that I've been willing to be more understanding.

I think this is related to people who thinkg "drawer" is spelled "draw." They all seem to work with me. Since we do quite a lot involving cash drawers, I've gently pointed it out several times. No change. That's a battle I'm never going to win, but it drives me CRAZY!
