  • Not editing quotes

It's not just here or at CS.
I belong to another "Mom" forum where members are allowed to have about 35 pictures and all kinds of sparkly gifs and such in their sig lines.
Unlike on this site and CS, when a post gets quoted, it also quotes the sig line, and, if that post already contains a quote, it quotes that one as well.

So, members will quote a post, leave in the entire post, which could be half a page already, then add their own stuff.

It can be so freaking annoying to come back to a popular thread and have to wade through 20 pages of replies, and end up scrolling down through one reply per page, going past the previous 4 posts that are contained in that reply, as well as all those annoying little sparklies and huge photos that belong to each member who has been quoted, just to get to the actual point of the post.

How hard is it to edit?

But, yeah, it does annoy me on fratching and CS too.

The person will quote a whole post and then only reply to one point in that post.
If one is referring to the whole post, I can sort of see it, but then, a person can also just quote the first line and put in a "<snip>" or "..." and then address all the points in the reply instead of reposting the whole thing over again.

    We already read it once...
    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

The one that bugs me just as much as that is multi-posting to reply to different quotes, Multi-quote button exists for a reason damn it.

A resounding yes! The longer I've been around, the less time I like wasting wading through duplicate posts from quotes.

It really doesn't take that long to edit. I hate trying to decipher what people are responding to!

I guess people just don't think to do things like this.

Kind of on the same topic, though, I belong to another forum where many of the members have pictures in their signatures, and some of the pictures are big, too. Sometimes it takes my six year-old computer a minute or so to load all of that.

One word; Gaia. A lot of people (myself included! XD) like to flavour their posts with little pictures, coloured text etc. So if someone multiquotes... argh. X_x

One of my pet hates is people who are allergic to the edit button and multipost several times in a row, rather than edit. -.- It's pretty much just a form of spamming.

That's exactly how I feel on that other forum.

Do I care that umpteen people have relatives in the military, or that they are preggers and the baby would be "this big" today, or that they are due on whatever date?
Do I care that they are the mommy of a terrific kid or that they are sending me angels or sparkly doggy kisses or kitty cuddles?

If the images were only tiny, maybe, but if it's an active poster, or someone who gets quoted a lot, I can end up looking at the same damn pictures a whole lot of times in one thread.

That would drive me batshit crazy. I'm very happy we have image restrictions on these forums.

I don't even like when posters use animated avatars. And those images are only, what? 100x100 pixels?

Oh boy, you should see what it was like on this one game's forum. We had this thing called quote pyramids. If you quote someone that had quoted someone else, their post, including their quote, is included in yours. So sometimes it'd be quote inside of quote inside of quote inside of quote inside of quote...etc. etc. It would get so freaking ridiculous.

I hate when people quote the op without editing and then respond to the thing as a whole, in other words just replying to the thread but for some reason copying an entire paragraph. further, those people usually only post a one line comment. Extra points if you are the first response.

Worst still if they quote the entire post and just post either "yeh i agree lol" or a smiley. Gah... -.-

That's why we don't allow smiley-only posts on CS. Geez people, add some freaking content to your posts!

What's funny is the forums for CoH have a very good reason to do that. Because you can easily "ninja-edit" since the forums don't automatically add an edit notification, and certain posters are well known for editing their OPs after the thread went on a good page or 2 so the other posts don't make sense.
