Actually, Pedersen, diet Pepsi would contain aspertame instead of HFCS. However, you're right - that much soda is terrible for you.

See, this is part of the problem here. How could anyone NOT know that almost 7 liters of soda a day would be unhealthy?

Well, assuming you brush regularly to prevent the phosphoric acid from eating away at your teeth, Diet Soda has no calories, so you don't gain weight. Aspartame has not actually been proven to be bad for you (those original studies were a farce). Otherwise, it's really just like drinking water, but with flavouring.

Pedersen's bit about HFCS is a little scary, but since that doesn't apply to diet sodas...
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

          Dude. Seven liters???

I'm not arguing the pros and cons of sweeteners and chemicals and whatnot but seven liters per day of any artifical chemical stew?

I drink a about a can or two a day of aspertame-free diet soda. It's one of my vices. And I do it understanding that even THAT is probably not great for me.

            Carbonated Water
            Caramel Color
            Aspartame
            Phosphoric Acid
            Potassium Benzoate
            Caffeine
            Citric Acid
            Natural flavors

Apart from the caffeine, there's nothing in there that will have an effect on your physiology, unless Pedersen's got more of his research in his back pocket again.

I have quit before for a month and noticed no differences in my health or behavior whatsoever... other than really wanting something other than water to drink.

I have always drunk enormous amounts of fluid, even when it was only water. I get heat exhaustion unusually easily, so I gather that I just need more fluid than normal.
I couldn't find any information about people drinking more fluid than they need voluntarily. It has always been in contests or the result of severe mental illness.

I'm just weird.. and at least half of my diet pepsis are caffeine free.

I dropped almost all soda from my diet (I might have one a week, but it used to be 2 a day) when I started watching "How Clean is Your House?" (my favorite freakin' show, btw) and saw that on several occasions, bottles of cola were being used to clean the scuzziest of toilets. That much acid can't be good for you.

Back to the topic at hand, I'm with Lupo and DesignFox. It is SO annoying to be subjected to the whining of people about whatever problem they have when they are doing NOTHING to fix it. Yes, it's been made clear at this point that this thread is about people that Lupo knows personally, and I trust that she is a fair judge of whether or not these people have been making the effort to work on their problems (in this case, weight loss.) I don't really have much to add other than you have my sympathy *and* my congratulations on your success so far.

And for some of you, if you're really interested in weight loss, I'd recommend starting with the huge ass chips on your shoulders. It could only help, really.

Well, I know I've just figured out who I can talk to about it. I don't talk about my weight and self-image issues with many people...pretty much only my friend Skinny Bitch. Even then it wasn't constant, but she'd wonder why I'd get so depressed being single or would stay with jerky guys for too long and I finally began to talk to her about it. And it helps to have a shoulder to lean on, it really does.

But I find those that talk about it all the time bothersome. Ditto self-effacing "I'm just the funny fatty" moments. I'm not automatically the 'funny friend' because I'm overweight.

I am a bit overweight myself, but rather then complain or go on some idiotic diet I started doing wiifit (which I love btw) and lost quite a bit of weight, but I don't do just five minutes of balance games, I do twenty minutes of jogging and maybe 10min of balance for fun EVERYDAY!, then again I understand that regardless of body type, MOVEMENT is the best thing to lose weight. Although sometimes its really frustrating when it doesn't SHOW!! That is when I want to give up and walk away, any words of wisdom for that? Just wondering cause that could be part the problem for some, not seeing results on themselves or staying the same weight dispite all the work they are doing for weeks on end

Yeah the post implied they where mostly lazy and unwilling to work but one has to wonder if maybe they did try in the past and got to a point where they went "THIS ISN'T WORKING" and walked away in disgust
I'm a happy, well adjusted emotinally disturbed person, who can't spell

I've been told that I'm looking better in my uniforms after just loosing a couple inches in my midsection...my numbers are better...my hair isn't coming out in clumps as bad anymore...and sometimes I sleep better.

And yet I'm still constantly given the looks of poor her and oh my god how fat...I have no love for the complainers who do nothing.

And I've just realized I can do DDR now...the floor won't 'move' on me here like it did at the house (which may be condemed).
