As I said, I've not seen the remakes because Zombie's a one-note hack.

    Re: DD.

Well, since in the first, it's really his mother, that's her being Wrath. In the second, it also fits. It's been a while since I've seen the third, but even killing anything in his way fits being Wrath, as nothing can come between Wrath and its target. It's not like he really goes out of his way to kill people (well, until later in the series, but I stop counting most horror movie instalments after #3 or 4, since the makers feel they need to really up the shock/horror/gore stuff to keep the audience coming back).

I dunno. I see OP's point about horror movie remakes (or almost ANY movie remake in general. some movies dont HAVE to be remade just because they're old. old movies are still great movies, well they can be.)

I personally liked the friday the 13th remake. (although I think most of my enjoyment came from taking my gf who'd never seen a typical 'slasher' flick horror mvoie before to it and getting to point out to her 'alright see they're havign sex, they're dead... he's NOT white he's dead... oh she ran off ALL ALONE into the woods she's dead.) etc. you know the horror movie 'rules' lol. so it made it entertaining.

I refuse to see any of the halloween ones b/c rob zombie can't direct worth shit (I made the mistake of seeing 'devils rejects... never again').

side note: anyone else hear that there is talk of remaking The Crow? AHH WHY? movies a classic and is amazing as is.

aHA! Found out where I made the error. It's Zombie's Halloween II.

I'm not a horror fan so bear with me.

One of the things that grates me about the remakes (or even "new" stuff) is that they suddenly have to give a reason and visualize everything. That takes the whole concept of fear right out.

In the older films, often times they would have one person on their own for some reason or another and then suddenly, a blood curdling scream and a silhouette of some gruesome action (if that much), then later the body (or what's left of it) strung up in some hideous fashion. It's that unknown factor that scares the crap out of people.

Now? Now they have to show how the monster knew where they were and how exactly they die. That's not scary, that's just gross.

(and yeah, the whole "humanizing" the monster is bull. The only one ones that wee humanized in the past were Frankenstein's monster and King Kong. All the others were fine with being evil monsters.)

And that was to show the inhumanity of man. In these remakes with humanized killers, the same rule doesn't apply. The point was never to show how they were mistreated and twisted in to killers.

On an interesting note, I watched the commentary on Freddy vs. Jason last night, and Robert Englund was on the track (Freddy), and he said he's always seen Freddy as a case of "two wrongs doesn't make a right." Freddy was a killer, and the parents took justice in to their own hands, and killed him. That was wrong as well, and spawned a further wrong in Freddy's hate of the families of Elm St. binding him to the nightmare world, rather than going to hell. Thus, Freddy can't really die until he feels his revenge is complete, which would be removing all happiness from the lives of the people responsible, everyone related to those people, down through all generations.

On a terrifying note, I've learned more about the forthcoming remake, where apparently they're going to literally steal scenes from the old movies, and remove the wise-cracking element of Freddy. I really think it's going to be worse than this Friday the 13th movie, which, while not scary in the slightest, was at least watchable.

I'm very sorry several of you don't care for Rob Zombie's work.

Personally, I really liked both of the Halloween films that he did.

Maybe if he could write a character beyond "pig fucking hillbilly," stopped exploiting the fact he's married to a hot lady, and learned appropriate use of gore and shock value, he might start approaching mediocre.

Hey, Halloween 2 was way better than Final Destination 4, that's all I'm going to say.

Bf and I should not have even wasted our money, let alone the extra $5 for the 3D glasses.

And bf had the night of his life getting to make fun of me while I almost peed my pants at the jumper towards the end. I'm very, very jumpy with horror movies. It's why I like them so much. Unfortunately, I forget my manners at the theater, keeping it under control.

I think I just found my Halloween costume idea. Shouldn't cost me....anything. Rob Zombie's wife!
