  • How Dare You Be Responsible!

How dare you not want to risk drinking and driving!

    How dare you drive safely!

How dare you not need alcohol to have a good time!

How dare you watch your drink and how many you've had and pace yourself!

And HOW FUCKING DARE YOU switch to soda pop!

How dare you not want to get drunk at your friend's wedding!

HOW DARE YOU NOT WANT TO DANCE TO THIS SONG! (even though the person berating me for not dancing for god forbid one or two songs here and there didn't dance the ENTIRE fucking night, save for one or two of the traditional wedding type dances)

Some people, I'm glad they are just acquaintances......

And I hate to be mean, but I really, really wouldn't shed a tear if that one particular acquaintance got a DUI one of these days. In fact, I'd probably laugh.

Thank you for letting me rant. I know someone out there must understand.

Hahaha, you called it soda pop!

Seriously though, I hate the attitude that you have to drink to have fun. I mean, I have loads of fun drinking, but in the past week, I've been kinda doing stuff that makes an ass out of myself (nothing overly obnoxious, but just responding in a bad way to stuff) because of drinking. There's nothing wrong with going out and not having a drink. I enjoy pacing myself when I'm at the bars. I'll have a drink, then I'll have a soda. Have another drink, then I'll have a soda. I don't want to get sick, I don't want to puke, and I certainly don't want to drive drunk. Drunk driving is about as dumb as it gets.

To my mind, if you get in a car with a drunk driver, then it's just as much your fault as it is his if you end up being killed or injured cuz of it. No-one forced you to get in, you made the decision. True, this opinion makes me unpopular with Hanoi Rocks fans, but it's how I see it.

I will never ever ever get into a car with someone behind the wheel who's over the limit. I will also do my level best to talk them out of driving and once my boyf and I even took this guy's keys to stop him driving. He was mad as hell, but even his flipping FRIENDS agreed with us. We gave the keys to one of the drunk's friends after he'd gone home in a taxi. Drinking and driving wrecks lives, and there is just no need for it.

I like to go out and socialise over a drink or two; however, I very rarely get paraletic. Last Saturday night, my boyf and I went out to get drunk, for the first time in several months. Most of the time when I leave a bar I'm merry, but not pissed up drunk. I grew out of that stage years ago. True, I have an alcohol tolerance level that can make grown men weep, but that's no reason to torture my liver every fucking week.

drinking is not necessary to have fun, getting drunk is not essential EVER.

I used to do that, but I have been a very rare consumer of alcohol for years now and don't miss it.

My navy uncle got so fed up with the constant demands to drink that he eventually lied and told everyone that he was an alcoholic. Suddenly he got sympathy instead of anger.
          How messed up is that?

When I go out with a few friends drinking, I'll drink just 3 drinks. They are only $3.00 each. After I have three, then I'll drink water the rest of the night, if not soda

I rarely drink and I have a very low tolerance for alcohol. A little drink here and there is not bad, but I just don't see why some people think you have to be shitfaced to have fun?!

Add me to the camp that doesn't understand the fun in getting shit-faced.

Don't get me wrong, I like to drink on occasion, but getting shit-faced and acting stupid is, well, stupid.

Sure fire way to get banned from not only my home, but my group's social gatherings in general, is to foist booze on people.

I really like that idea, Kink. If it had been my wedding, anyone going around trying to pressure people to drink would be booted.

Also, anyone so drunk to the point of falling down would be kicked out as well.

But then again, when I get married, I also plan to not have free beer or a free bar for people. Everyone will have to pay for their drinks....there's a slight detourent lol.

Maybe I should make the picture a little clearer since I was a little vague when I posted this.

My friend got married last weekend, I was in the wedding party. Most of the other bridesmaids and the groomsmen and the groom were getting totally sloshed, and one of my acquaintances from work was a guest and she was playing "Booze Patrol", going up to people who were just enjoying themselves or were happy with what they were drinking and trying to pressure everyone to get as drunk as she was.

She actually got furious with me when I told her NO, I was not going to get drunk, I was just fine, I did not NEED to get drunk to have fun, that I HAD to drive some people home that night, this reception was several miles out of town and no cabs would be coming out that far, there was NO WAY I was going to get drunk and even get a ride with someone else and ditch the people I promised I'd take home, just to wake up hungover the next day to have to find a way to go get my car.

Trust me, that got really old after a while...waking up the next day and not knowing where the hell my car was and having to find a way to go get it. Plus, it's never fun having to take the chance driving drunk anyway.

I can't believe how some people just have no respect for others. I understand a wedding is a celebration and people do tend to get a little tipsy, but I think it's kind of an insult to get totally sloshed and falling down drunk at a wedding.

If you can get shit-faced without spinning when you lay down or puking, it's quite a fun experience.

I remember the days. Shit-faced at age 20 and shit faced at age 40 are two entirely different experiences.

I sometimes enjoy getting shitfaced; however, it's more like an "every few months" event rather than "three times a week" as it was back in my younger days. XD Back when I was at college, I often got ratfaced; it was fun. In my twenties, I often went out Friday, Saturday and Sunday night; yup, even when working, cuz I didn't drive. It was when I learned how to drive, that I had to start being selective.

I don't get hangovers. *ducks flying rocks* And believe me, it's not from want of trying. XD

I agree with you there. I'm glad I don't seem to have friends like that. 'Cause man, I went to a "cash bar" wedding once and that sucked! (I found out later is was the only way for the Hindu family of the husband - whose religion prohibits drinking- and the not-Hindu family of the wife to compromise for their guests).

I think it's kind of crappy to make your guests pay for drinks. But I also would think that they'd be respectful enough not to be drop-dead drunk. It's just horrible to think you'd have to baby-sit a bunch of adults.

I wouldn't be hanging around with those so-called friends that want you to get drunk all the time blas. Why is it any of their concern how much alcohol you feel like drinking, anyway?

Personally, I love the person who wants to be the DD.

I sure as hell don't prefer to drive. And if I'm driving, I'm not drinking (the most I'll ever drink and I'll sit around afterward is 1 beer- I don't trust myself otherwise and it isn't worth it. At all.).

I never really understood that either. What's the point in shelling out money for an event (movie, concert, etc.) and then getting so fucked up, you can't even remember it? How exactly, is that fun...or even a good time?

Years ago, my then-girlfriend and I went downtown for New Year's. Considering we had to drive back to my place, and that the police would be having checkpoints all over the place...we chose not to drink. When telling people that we *didn't* get trashed, they looked at us like we were from another planet!

Granted, I like a glass or two of wine with dinner, but that's pretty much it. I don't drink to get blitzed, nor do I drive afterward. The only time that I've been close to drunk, was over vacation--it was the last day...and I really didn't want to bring home a (large) open bottle of wine. So, we all polished that off. Yes, I was very tipsy, and it was good that the hallway leading to my bedroom was narrow. Slept it off, and was fine in the morning
