  • We are all gonna die!!!!

I hate that I can't compliment TV, "It rots people's brains it has really gone downhill it's worse now because they don't have any morals"

I hate that a complaint about an individual results in, "Well people are stupid and I want to blow up the world"

I am apparently not allowed to complain without someone telling me in what way the world is getting stupider, worse, or just plain going to end.

I happen to think that regardless of the current economic situation life is better for us than in any other time in history.

For godssake our entertainment options for adults aren't limited to plays and books. We have indoor plumbing, Movies, TV (which I think is getting smarter don't believe me read Everything Bad is Good For you), video games. Etc.

I think we are moving forward slowly but surely into an even better time to be alive. So let me be optimistic and stop spouting doomsday. Oh and 2012 can bite me.

    Indoor plumbing is entertainment?

As for 2012, so what if their calendar ends, ours ends every year.

It begs the question, why are you talking to these people if they are constantly negative?

I limit my contact to chickenlickens as much as possible, they drive me NUTS. The same goes for people who seem to think they are an expert on something they have absolutely no experiance with... gtfafme!!!!

Indoor plumbing like most of our society is a luxury. I was merely pointing out we have plenty of luxuries.

It is everywhere I turn. The news, people on the street, coworkers, customer's all sure the world sucks.

and that's part of the problem-we surround ourselves with "things" rather than people. We rely on the "things" to entertain us, and when they don't we buy better "things" in the incorrect thinking that a shinier, newer thing will make us happy. When in reality it doesn't because then we have to work harder to pay for the "things" and have no time to enjoy life. Several of my coworkers bought 50 inch plasma tv's-they are now working so much to pay off the credit cards they have no time to enjoy them. One coworker is whining about her mortgage, and how much work she has to do on her house...no one forced her to buy a $300,000.00 house(4 bedrooms-it's her and her husband, they don't want kids, and are always working to pay for it so no time for friends/socializing).

I'm enjoying making my holiday cards for the card exchange, taking walks/bikerides watching the leaves change color/fall-cost is minimal so I only have to work 40 hours-plenty of time to do stuff I enjoy, or to spend time with friends and family. I may not have "things" but I have memories....

Which is how I live my life too Blaquekatt I am a 'slacker' through and through. I live to experience life not keep up with the joneses. Give me a margarita, a lawn chair and a cheeseburger in paradise anyday over a plasma TV.

I 'work' less than 16 hours a week (work is defined as saying a few things in front of a class of 'kids' - 17-20 year olds who haven't grown up yet - and then getting them to do stuff while I do nothing).

I get paid about 3-4 times the average salary here.

I don't have a plasma, entertainment is usually what I can find on the net (or what I get the kids to do ). Gaming is restricted due to the net connection.

                But damn life is good!

(well, other than the sanitation... and sometimes the cold)

This is the same crap over and over again. Remember the Y2K end of the world panic. While people were huddling inside of bunkers I was working on the slowest New Years Eve in the restaurant. Did the world end? No. Is it going to end in 2012? No. Same old shit just a different year.

The movies that are about the end of the world doesn't help either.

No they don't I have to hear this crud at work and get rolled eyes when I point out the fallacy of believing it's all going to end.

Let's not forget the most important thing about the "OMG we're gonna die" hysteria. That would be the media. These people aren't stupid--they know that they can get away with reporting half-truths or outright lies, and many people will fall for it hook, line, and sinker. They did the same thing with Y2K, 9/11 (the aftermath), and continue to do it as soon as the weather starts getting colder.

Why? Because people will watch! That's the *only* reason. Locally, as soon as it starts getting colder, nearly every "breaking news" story is about the "snow" that's coming. Every fucking year, the stations act like we're getting a blizzard. That forces everyone and their mom to swarm the stores, buy everything in sight...and usually turns every road in the county into a damn parking lot.

Do we ever *get* the massive snows that they're calling for? Of course not! But, the stations think that as long as people are watching, and that their ratings go up... who cares?

As for me, I don't see what all the hysteria is about. I mean, if our planet is truly going to destroy itself, there's not really much we can do about it. Why worry about something you can't control?

Not just about the big things either. User rooms used to exist on Yahoo and now even the adult rooms are down to a lot less. This is due to a news story that made the following points.

Teens are being preyed upon by adults who pose as teens in the Yahoo created Teen rooms.

Then they started talking about the Adult user created rooms in the same story as if those rooms had anything to do with the point above.

Parents freaked out threatened companies who threatened Yahoo who yanked user created rooms and Nerfed adult rooms.

Now adults are still perfectly able to pose as teens and stalk teens online but the adults that weren't doing this can't have their nasty little topic specific rooms anymore.
