LOL! That's always cracked me up, too.

Drives me nuts when they call strip clubs "gentleman's clubs." For one, no man that fits the description of "gentleman" ogles naked women. For two, just call it what it is for Pete's sake! You aren't fooling anybody.

Gonna have to mightily disagree there. Most of the true gentlemen I know are not ashamed of their enjoyment of the female figure and see nothing wrong with porn and/or strip clubs every now and then. Not all strip clubs are seedy and not all of their attendees are lecherous losers. Hell, if they were legal in my province, I'd go to strip clubs. I don't think it makes me any less classy or well brought up to like to look at sexy naked people.

Just my opinion, Std. When I hear the word gentleman I think like, old time classy, modest, high-class manners.

I don't *condemn* people who go to strip clubs, but strip club of any sort does not = classy in my mind. That goes for women going to ogle men, too.

It's one of those things I wouldn't outlaw (I mean, hey, if you want to sell yourself, and there's people buying, I can't stop you) but I don't approve.

I always imagined a gentleman's club would have expensive booze, fancy imported cigars, antique cars, etc....

Funny you should mention that, Blas. There used to be a strip club in New Orleans (people from there can confirm if it's still there) called "Temptations". They advertised constantly on 107 The End that they had "The finest cigars, cognacs and brandies!" I've never been. I couldn't go to a strip club, because I've seen what some of the girls look like without their make-up and costumes on: very haggard and sad.

Also, isn't it funny that there are "gentlemen's clubs", but there aren't "ladies clubs"? They're just strip clubs.

I have known healthy, happy strippers that do it as a job make good money and don't have any apparent issues. These are women I have met outside of the strip club in the public world when they were not working.

                Edit:

Been to one once. It was boring the chicken wings sucked.

I don't have a problem with strippers, I'd just prefer they stay away from my boyfriend and he stays away from them, but moreso the latter.

Exactly. You go your way, I'll go mine.

My BF never has been and doesn't want to go. FTR he brought it up, not me. In his words, "I never understood the appeal... I mean, a bunch of dudes, all staring at the same naked chick? Seriously?" XD

I was honest and told him I was glad he felt that way all on his own, because it's one of the few things he could do that might actually piss me off.

I think certain strip clubs attract certain kinds of dancers. I made my living driving a cab when I first moved to New Orleans, owned by my ex-wife's BIL. He had apparently made deals with many of the strippers going into the more seedy strip clubs on the outskrts of the Quarter. Without fail, every one of them made me feel bad for them just looking at them. Now, I'm not talking about the stereotypes like needle tracks or anything like that. Most of these girls were clean in that regard, they just looked... sad. Worn out, dried up, I don't know really how to describe it. I just felt bad for them whenever I saw them.

Back to the topic: the worst euphemism ever invented has got to be the phrase "collateral damage".

There's a strip club and porn shop not far from my college; the porn store has a fairly normal sign ("News"), but the blacked-out windows ruin the illusion. The Twit tried to get me to go to the club once, but I'm just not that interested in that kind of stuff.

My mom has pointed out that since pre=before, as soon as it passes to the dealer it's no longer "pre-owned," it's owned.

                          Yeah, we're weird.

I have a fairly intense dislike for social games and "nicer" phrasing like that. I don't have qualms about saying "died" or calling something what it's supposed to be called. While I kinda understand that with kids, phrases like "passed away" etc could be seen as softening the blow, adults know what's what and prettying it up is just dumb.

We have a brightly lit porn shop. It's like any other store. Doesn't feel like walking into a dark cave

I haven't been into the store in town now, but I used to know the owner of the one that was here previously. The old store (geared to women, which was nice) was about the size of an average studio apartment, tasteful lighting and cozy decor, customers were encouraged to browse the books.

The one here is right next to one of the off-campus University bookstores. It's kinda hilarious.
