Every so often on CS, there will be a post where a customer has a valid point (usually they are members of the board posting in sightings). A major one seems to be telemarketing. I myself don't mind occasional telemarketers. I just either say I'm not interested or hang up em. No games, no pranks, no mean jokes. I just hang up and ignore em.
What does piss me off is the persistence they have. When they won't take no for an answer (this also applies to any other direct marketing) or make up some BS about it not being a sales call, I get pissed off. At least with telemarketing, I can hang up on them, but when I am at a store, and bugged about some loyalty program, or even worse, something I CANNOT afford. When I say no, that should be final, end of story, but some salespeople won't take no for an answer! They can be very aggressive and it can make me very uncomfortable (I have social anxiety).
Just because they are being told to do so by some corporate smuck, doesn't make it any less annoying. There reaches a point when I have to be rude by either ignoring them, walking away, or getting firm (I had to do this before). Personally, I don't give a damn if it's "their job". It's still harassment, and it puts me in a very uncomfortable situation. Fortunately most sales people know when to accept "no", but for the few that don't, for any reason, fuck off.
Let me put it this way. If doing your job is not allowing a refund that some asshole customer feels entitled too, then I totally sympathize. I think you should say no because if the customer would have understood the policy in the first place, they wouldn't be in that situation. The customer is the one being persistent HOWEVER, when the sales person is being persistent, then they are being sucky, whether it's their job or not.
