More of a minor annoyance than a hatred, really.
My husband is bad for this. If I'm on the phone with someone he doesn't know, he lets me be. But if I'm talking to a family member or mutual friend, he can't seem to resist chiming in with comments about my half of the conversation (the only half he can hear).
It's incredibly confusing. I'm forced to respond to him (usually to tell him to be quiet), and then I'll either miss something that my friend has said, or my friend thinks I'm talking to her. Or sometimes my attention is just split and I miss what both of them are saying.
I always mention it to my husband when I'm off the phone. He apologizes, we laugh it off....and next phone call, he's right back at it.
Our place is an open-concept loft, so there are NO DOORS. The only room that offers privacy is the bathroom. You can hear someone's conversation from any other point in the apartment. But I'd rather not have a long chat with my sister while perched on the edge of a bathtub, you know?
