Thus further proving an art history professors theory that in general women fill one of two roles, the virgin/mother role or the temptress/whore role.
I know which one I would rather be
I prefer to be something else entirely, and to confuse the hell out of everybody!
People behave as if they were actors in their own reality show. --Panacea If you're gonna be one of the people who say it's time to make America great again, stop being one of the reasons America isn't great right now. --Jester
I would say it's not a good question because the answer is really obvious.......it would be like asking a dentist if they like/are interested in teeth. (but that's just my personal opinion)
The answer to most small-talk questions are blindingly obvious (ie, "Cold out today, isn't it?" "Looking forward to your vacation?"). If that's how you look at things, you're missing the point. These questions are not actual questions; they are social lubricant.
The guy who asked you if you liked books was trying to start a conversation. He wanted to get to know you, and thought maybe you could bond over a mutual love of a certain genre. If you weren't interested in talking to him, that's one thing. But I have a feeling you'd have been more forgiving if the man of your dreams had asked the same thing.
I think the reason that they act about the stereotype is a bit more complicated than it first seems.
See, they're looking for a potential mate. They're not going to want to offend someone they may look at settling down with, so they'll act as if the someone in question is of the stereotype to then tap dance around potential foibles of those. That gets set in their minds as how that person is going to be and then they act as if that's the case, whether it is or not.
I have to admit that were I in a dating frame of mind, I'd be inclined away from anyone devoutly religious. That's my personal choice, but I wouldn't be nasty about it.
