  • It is not a 'guy thing'!

Not a huge, serious rant, but I have to get it off my chest. My nephew is constantly forcing me to borrow his movies and will pester me until I've watched them. Or I'll share my opinion on a movie I didn't particularly like. Two of the films in question are Kingdom of Heaven and Troy. I did not like these movies. I couldn't even tolerate more than 30 minutes of Troy. When I tell him I found the movies boring, poorly made, etc, he gets this smug-ass look on his face and goes "Ah, it's a guy movie" or "Heh, guy thing I guess, huh?"

No. No, you slavering media addict, it is not a 'guy thing'. I did not think the movie was shitty because it is a 'guy' movie. I like plenty of movies that seem to have been aimed at a male demographic. I thought it was crap because it was, in short, crap.

    Troy was a chick flick...

It's really annoying when family (or friends) shove stuff on to you that you JUST DONT WANT!!!They won't take no for an answer and then act all pissy/hurt when you stand up for yourself.

My bf's mother used to just drop by with things she thought I might need...useless junky clutter, little trinkets or tacky plates with kittens on them and then the next time she was over she would act hurt that I hadn't given them pride of place. Her house is filled with that kind of dusty crap, while my house is minimalistic and I like it that way I hate visual clutter.

ahh family... cant live with them, cant stand em

One of the only reasons I liked Troy was because of Brad Pitts chest and abs, he was in about the best shape of his life for that movie.

Yea, the only people I know who watched that movie were women who wanted to see that. My mom tried to get me to watch it. That lasted about five seconds.

I'm still trying to get over the comparison between Kingdom of Heaven and Troy. One is poorly made, stupidly written, over-hyped nonsense... the other's Kingdom of Heaven...

Although I have to admit that Balian was over-optimistic for my tastes, it's a small flaw in what's otherwise (to me at least) a genuinely engaging movie, in both action and commentary.

That said, 'it's a guy thing' or 'it's a girl thing' are both infuriating and as common as unkilled roaches... till I get through with them

Agreeing with Wingates here. To make the matters worse for Troy's bad writing, I could not get over how unbelievable Brad PItt was in that role. In what few "inspirational" lines he had, he couldn't pull them off.

My only complaint with Kingdom of Heaven was Eva Green didn't get nekkid Actually... it was the time frame. The movie makes you feel like everything happened within a few days of each other, but his land grew a lot of grass and other plant life for it to be so.

Troy was a good movie because Eric Bana was in it.

I shall not be swayed in this opinion.

                    Boozy, don't forget Sean Bean.

I love me some Sean Bean, even if he didn't remove clothing. His voice alone *drool*

I hate when people classify movies as "girl" or "guy". I prefer Mel Brooks comedies, thrillers, and action movies that tend to be classified as 'guy' movies. My boyfriend, who likes much of what I do, also likes romantic comedies and movies like The Notebook aka 'chick flicks'.

Count me in as another woman who doesn't get all wet over most "chick flicks". I won a free pass to see "Sliding Doors", so I took my sister to it, because she really wanted to go. I have to admit, I liked that one. I think it was the way the two plot lines splintered off and went in totally different directions, based on something seemingly so insignifigant as catching or missing a train. That made the movie interesting for me.

I also enjoyed Titanic, but I don't consider Titanic to be the same as most chick flicks- that movie had something for everyone- part love story, part action/disaster movie, and a side of historical event that lots of people are fascinated with.

I love romantic comedies and action movies equally. I am a sucker for a good love story.

I also love sci fi and mind benders.

None of them really strike me as gender specific.

I've been trying to come up with a reasonable guide for movies I like...
                            Generally
                            1. There must be a body count.
                            2. There must be a NAME involved. Famous actor/actress or director.

I'm sure there're more guidelines, but these are the only ones I can think of.
I don't like the 'drama' movies or 'chick flick's, and comedies don't go over well either. Basically, movies from the 80's.

Oddly though, Kingdom and Troy both fit the above guidelines. I thought Troy was weak or over-hyped for what it was, and they could have done better. Kingdom was a bit over-long, and kinda complicated, as in it had several tangents that ran on, and ran away from the movie.

This coming from a person who enjoys Black Hawk Down and Equilibrium almost as much as You've Got Mail and Last Holiday, the whole 'guy' thing 'girl' thing has, like all stereotypes, something to it. 'girl' movies are more often enjoyed by girls and 'guy' movies by guys. The problem stems from people who can't differentiate between social phenomenon and rules of the universe.

Conan the Barbarian and Clue are two of my most cherished movies... and ultimate classics
