  • Changing looks warrant snide comments

The looking different thread made me think of this

I change my style every few months....from dirty hippie to hiker chick to "fake" punk/funk look and everything in between.

When I go thru the hippie look, my hair is down, I'll have one flowery clothes and Birks. Hiker chick: pony tail, boots, jeans, t-shirts. Fake punk (like now), layered hair, silly plastic jewelry, *gasp* make up, and colors (ok, I do a goth thing in Oct)

Everytime I switch up the look, I get coworkers who have to comment. Usually its humorous (oh, you're wearing color, what are you, happy??) (what are you, a girl?) (damn hippie)

It harmless, and I'm and not writing because I am offended....but dear bast, get some new jokes!!

I can understand. I got a haircut, seemed everyone at work had to ask "Did you get a haircut?" "Didn't you have hair last week?"
I've told a couple of them that they were on drugs and just hallucinating last week. It gets annoying.

Every so often, I will change my style some how. I might have my hair comb back ( getting it that way now ), or I might go for a crew cut. Or I might even change how I dress. I dress mostly preppy. Just because that is how I am. I use to get remarks and I know my team will say something. But that is what we do to each other.

But, yeah. There needs to be new jokes.

Man, at my old job, it was just the opposite for me. I would do something drastic with my hair, like get it cut several inches and colored a different color, and NO ONE would comment on it. I'd go into work feeling nice and new and I wouldn't even get a "did you do something to your hair?" let alone a "nice haircut" or any kind of compliment. I always joked with myself that someday I'd do something crazy like shave my head just to see if I could get any sort of response from anyone.

I got a lot of rude comments about the Vikings the last time I got my hair dyed purple underneath the blonde, because when it was fresh, it was freaking PLUM violet. (gaah I miss it ..)

I dyed my hair purple because I like purple and it looks awesome, dammit. Not because I like those stupid Vikings.

People think they are so damn funny.

I got a lot of Redskins comments back when I wore a baggy crimson hoodie and hat. Despite the fact that I A: Don's sports much at all, and as little as I do, I'm a Steeler's fan and B: Both articles of clothing had no logo whatsoever, blank.

That's part of what motivated me to switch to a brown/black hoodie and black/green hoodie with Multicam and ARPAT ballcaps respectively. Now I get a bunch of military-related comments ranging from 'nice cap, ACU?' through 'Where can I get a hat like that?' up to 'HOW DARE you impersonate a SOLDIER?!??!'

It's a freakin' hat, doesn't even have a flag on it much less insignia (which some people stitch to their jackets because it's 'cool'...

I had long hair until my daughter freaked out and begged me to cut it because I looked like a stranger. Once I cut it suddenly everyone at work wanted to be my friend and thought I was so cool for "looking like a guy" now. I would hear about they wanted boyfriends, brothers, etc to cut their hair.

I blame Disney. They wouldn't ever show princes with long hair that in all likelihood would have had long hair.

You should actually blame the Victorians...isn't that when men ditched wearing long, fancy wigs?

I admit, I don't like super long hair on guys. It just...I dunno if it's a long ingrained social construction or pure preference, cause I don't like super long hair on me either. The only hair mandate that I've given the BF is that there's enough for me to run my fingers through (and maybe pull ).

Lol. My boyf grew his hair long, with my encouragement, and I love it.

I don't change my look; my look is a combination of different looks all mixed together. Sometimes tho, I will go all out goth, or conversely, all out rock chick. It's amazing how many people as well will be snotty to me when I'm dressed up in a way they think is freaky weird... only to look like idiots when I point out that my dress is pure high street and the accessories came from Claires. Burn. XD Yes that's right; my outfit came from the same shops you got yours from.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

Actually, didn't the Prince from Beauty and the Beast have long hair, when he became human?

I find it weird that you have these looks that fit into categories. I suppose people tend to just fit in one, so changing from a few is a bit jarring, but on the other hand I think it seems weird that you would decide to dress like a hippy, or a punk or whatever. Maybe they just feel you are making alot of effort to look like whatever role you are going for and that makes them want to comment.
