    lolwut?

    I R 73H 1337 PWNZORZ! w/ mah DEAGLE!

I really don't think that's ever going to end. If there's one thing English is perfect for aside from borrowing words, it's making them up.

You're right - I lost track of the point of this thread. "Furbaby" sounds very annoying to my ears as well. I never use it.

But that's a personal preference of ours. I don't mind it being added to the English language as slang. It's very descriptive, and there's no other word like it. "Pet" doesn't have the same association.

And, it's a good analogy for how you care for them (there is a lot of similarity between taking care of a child and a pet)... and for some of us, that is the closest we will get to experiencing raising a child.

I've heard people say that if you treat your kids like dogs and your dogs like kids you'll have good kids and good dogs. Not having either, I'm not sure if I agree.

I've heard people call their kid's pets "grand-dogs" and "grand-cats." Always in a very tongue-in-cheek sort of way.

My grandmother told people she had grand-rabbits.

I wonder at which point will a human give birth to kittens or puppies?

When my brother's wife was almost due to give birth to their first child, my brother dreamed that she *did* have a cat. A full-grown, gray and black striped cat. And that everybody else wondered why he was upset when it was such a beautiful cat. Then it got outside, where there were a bunch of others, and he couldn't tell which cat was his son, and again nobody else seemed to think it mattered.

Elsporko has it backwards. "Babyfur" is the term used for members of the furry fandom who're into one of the following: the adult-baby, infantilism and/or diaper fetishes, and/or roleplaying as a baby-aged character. Terms "babyfur" and "cub" are interchangeable in some cases - all babyfurs are cubs, not all cubs are babyfurs. Some but not all of my furry characters are cubs. I'm not a babyfur and I don't have any babyfur characters, my youngest character is 8 and she doesn't wear diapers. People who're babyfurs, you'll see walking on the street and you'll have no idea they *might* be wearing a diaper under their clothes - not all of them actually do that, though, and many who do only do it in private.

"Furbaby" is, yes, a spoiled pet, almost always a cat or a toy-sized dog. If your dog is named Chanel or Armani, and has designer-label clothing or any wearables that have rhinestones and/or cost over $200, you may have a furbaby. If you carry your pet EVERYWHERE, and you CARRY him everywhere, you probably have a furbaby. And if your pet has never heard you talk to him or her in anything but 'baby chatter', you've got a furbaby.
