  • Old People On A Rock n Roll Stage

I know I'm gonna get lambasted for this but here goes:

One thing I cannot stand seeing is old people on stage playing rock music. Now alot of these bands, I love thier music. However they need to retire. One example is The Who. I watched them during halftime and cringed. It was absolutely horrible. I always thought Roger Daltrey was very sexy. However hearing him sing ruined that for me. He used to have a great voice now he just sounds like he's dying. Now if I see him on stage, my first thought isn't, man he's fine looking. It's grandpa please get off the stage.

I kinda felt the same way about The Who during the halftime show.

I just saw Sir Elton John and Billy Joel last night (yes, you may hate me ), and they still put on an amazing show. Sir Elton is obviously a bit tamer than he used to be, but he can still rock on the piano and so can Billy Joel. Heck, at one point, they both climbed on top of their pianos, Sir Elton in a Captain Morgan pose, and Billy Joel spinning around on his stomach. Granted, they aren't as "rock and roll" as the Who, but...yeah. (Billy Joel did make a lot of cracks about his age, apologizing for the light reflecting off his bald head and admitting he was worried about remembering the words to "We Didn't Start the Fire".)

A friend went to an Aerosmith concert a while back and said it was just sad.

      BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE - He's still amazing!

The Who - I'm glad I was drunk by half time. They sucked.

LOL - did you see him at the Kennedy Center Honors? He didn't look pleased with John Mellencamp's rendition of "Born in the USA". I'm not even a huge fan, but I would pay to see the Boss in concert.

Yes. I wanted to die. They couldn't do his songs for their lives. I did make it to the last concert at Giants Stadium.

I guess it depends on the person. An old classmate of mine who likes a lot of the same music as I do turned down a chance to see Judas Priest, because Rob Halford, the lead singer, was getting up there in years (I think he's pushing 60 now), and didn't think he'd be able to put on a good show. I told her I had seen them recently, and he can still kick ass, even for an old guy.

Same goes for Alice Cooper; he still rocks, even tho he's an old guy.

Rush is in the group of old guys who still rock, too. Geddy's voice is definitely showing signs of age, but mostly in losing the upper register. So it sounds to me, rather than try to hit that, they've simply transposed their songs for what he can do.

My dad could out-rock the lot of these and he's 59 years young

Its understandable that alot of these bands can't rock as much now as in the past, but to say they shouldn't perform is crazy talk. For one thing quite a few are still recording albums, so touring is important for promotion, then there's the fact that if you've been doing nothing but rocking since the 60s or 70s you probably don't have the kind of resume that gets you a job doing anything else (and if they've been rocking too hard they definitely still need to money)

I thought The Who did just fine. Its hard to play a concert that size with that little time to get everything set up and ready. I didn't think they sounded horrible at all.

I'm just amazed tjhat Jimmy Barnes can still sing like he used to, or even has a voice left for that matter.

The Who playing was the only part of the Superbowl I even cared about.

For me, whether the band can rock or not depends largely on whether or not they're taking care of themselves. Alice is in very good shape for his age; he plays a lot of golf and doesn't drink or take drugs any more.

However, were I to see an old rocker who was overweight and practically dying just climbing up the stage, that would annoy me. Then again, it would too if it were a young rocker. XD

I've seen Alice Cooper live three times and he is definitly in good shape. He's probably in better shape now then he was in the 80s.

You weren't the only one. But, I did want to see the Saints get pwned...and yes I was disappointed BTW, has anyone seen The Rolling Stones in concert lately? They're all in their 60s, yet still put on a good show.
