That's exactly right...and the reason we had one when our daughter was small.
It had absolutely nothing to do with expecting the rest of the world to bow to me and my child.

Believe me, there is no way in hell I would expect anyone, in this "me" era of every man for himself, to exercise any extra caution just because I happen to have a child in my car.
    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

That's interesting, and those signs make much more sense to me now.

I could never figure out why someone would think I'd drive like a maniac, risking my own life, but then shape up when I saw that sticker. If someone's going to be reckless with their own safety, I don't see anyone else's kid changing their minds.

Besides, reckless drivers don't know they're reckless. They think they're the best drivers and everyone else is a tool.

That makes more sense. I can understand why someone would have a sticker like that for this reason. I still find it ironic that the sticker was right in the middle of the rear window the last time I saw one, though.

Those stickers at least make more sense than the "Princess on board" stickers; ugh.

We didn't actually have a sticker on our car.
            We had a removable sign.
When the baby wasn't in the car, we didn't use the sign.

My brother does fire/rescue, and as he explained it, the problem with the permanent stickers is that valuable time could be wasted looking for a baby that isn't there.

A few years ago, they sold these stickers that you could put on your windows at home to alert firefighters to which bedrooms had children or elderly people, and if your home had a pet.

He said the problem with those was that circumstances in a home might change, or the house would be sold, and the person wouldn't think about the stickers on the windows, and, again, valuable time would be wasted or a firefighter would be put at greater risk trying to rescue someone who isn't there.

The other "Princess on board" type stickers are just silly little stickers put there by parents who dote on their children.

            I don't see the harm.

Right...and I don't see the harm in them, and since this is also a debate site, this is the place to say that, too.

I remember Grandma bought one of those for her cat, but then threw it out instead of putting it on the door because, great kitty though he was, she thought better of asking someone to risk human life for him.

Me too. I had no idea that was their real purpose. I guess good old George was wrong about that one. Hell, even I thought that was what those signs were about.

I found one that said "Nobody on board" once. I bought that one for my dad.

XD I think they're nauseating, so the person behind them could crash their car cuz they were busy throwing up.

I saw a "Brats On Board" sticker today tho, which made me laugh. XD

I have to admit that I'd not thought of the rescue reason for those stickers, but I'd expect a significant number of people buying them aren't thinking of that either.

My parents' home still has the "tot finder" decals on the windows. Of course, those were put on the windows about 30 years ago...and one of those rooms no longer has a child living in it. But, since my father uses my old bedroom as an office...maybe it does
