I'm waiting to see if my friend settles down- he seems to go through these gung-ho phases when he finds something new.
What does Go see the Elephant mean? That's one term I admit I don't know.
My appologies I didn't know that you and him are Canadian.
Going to see the Elephant means that you've been in actual combat. I first saw the elephant in 1971/1972 and again in 1990/1991. Got shot at in the Yugo area and Hati between 1992 and 1996. My brothers in 90/91 and 04/05/06. Now my oldest daughter in 2009/2010. Now that I think about about someone in my family has seen the Elephant in every generation and most more than one. Oh well you don't know you're alive until you've been shot at and missed. It's those shot at and hit instances that suck.

Don't worry, eventually you'll almost be in a train wreck or almost get run over and that'll serve the same purpose

AMEN! I mean, I'm grateful, the moreso because couldn't do it. Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII, and neither would talk about it, though one would tell related stories like how, upon returning home, he missed a question on a vocational placement test because it asked if iron floats and, having just crossed the Atlantic on a large chunk of iron named the Queen Mary, he answered yes.

I know douchebag that if he ever shows up on my porch I'm calling 911 and he better not try anything stupid before they arrive. used to be friends, he got deeper into drugs, tried beating his ex in my presence and hit me with a block of wood when I jumped off the couch to stop him.

3years ago a mutual friend who was there during incident(2.5 years later at this point) randomly ran into me at my college campus because his GF lived in my building. He suggested me him and DB should hangout for old times sake, of course I was told well he cleaned up his act.
Actually it was went from pot to coke, became a drunk. went clean
Started hanging out with A different ex gf who got him back into drugs.
              cleaned up again.
drugs again including heroin and meth.
              cleaned up

Come to think of it, mutual friend mentioned just about any drug you could do and all the rehabs. and it was hard not to say "How long before he relapses again? Sorry but I don't want to hangout with someone so unstable or anyone he knows".

I don't care if people reform, as long as they don't try to come be my friend again. I do agree with no being able to stand those who push their beliefs onto others. It nice god is great to them and they speak to him daily. To me god is very busy and I'll contact him if it is really important or I need something (like a real parent), otherwise give god a break for god's sake.
