  • My job again

I know everyone's probably sick of hearing me bitch about work, but christ, I just can't stand it there! Everyone's got a room temperature IQ and the lack of organization and vast amount of dallying around makes me want to stab someone.

Ok so like we got these styrofoam boxes we put the fish in. These boxes require lids. The lids must have specific labels on them.

I'm of the opinion that we should do this ahead, so we're ready. We have an order sheet that tells us we need 300 for X Fish, and 500 for Y Fish, and so on and so forth. But they only make up like 10 at a time. If I'm doing the lids, I'll make extra, and then everyone comes and bitches. "We already have enough of those, man. If we have any left over, the boss complains."

Fair enough, but why not just make up what we need? We know we need 500 Y Lids, why not just do up 500 of them right there? We have enough free time. The worst is that every fucking time they tell me "Stop making those lids!" then five minutes later its "OMG We need more lids holy shit we're way behind everything's backed up it's panic mode!"

And then I'll say in a friendly semi mocking voice "Oh no DrFaroohk, we don't need any more of those lids, no way we'll never use them! Oh noooooo!"

And they still don't listen. And we panic and run out of lids. And the line gets backed up. And then the supervisor comes out and says "Why is the line backed up?"

And then its "DrFaroohk is working too slow!"

And I'm sure its all my fault, because its connected to some deeply ingrained flaw of mine. Even the stuff that other people too, like the ones who got fired for shooting up in the parking lot...that's my fault too. I don't even know them but its my fault. Of course it is!

Where the hell is your line supervisor in all of this? This is one disorganized factory. Are you not supposed to have some team leader who handles all the logistics to keep production moving?

It's amazing to me that a new hire would be able to see some obvious opportunities for improving efficiency. Those wrinkles should have been ironed out ages ago.

Well I'm naturally into efficiency anyway, and it was probably my only strong suit when I was in management.

They also have an extremely high turnover. It seems most people don't last longer than a month or two. They also rehire people back all the time. Got fired for selling crack in the parking lot? No problem, welcome back!

There's three supervisors for the production part of it (the cutting and gutting of the fish) and one guy out in the shipping area where I am. He doesn't seem to care much. Some of the people there have mastered the art of looking busy. There's one guy there who will stand there with a box or something like that, just stand there, and as soon as a super comes around he acts like he's busy. And the supers don't have time to hide and see who's really working and who isn't.

I suppose I could say something, like "Hey man, ya know how John always looks busy? He's not." or "Why don't you all change your operational procedures to suit my needs?" but things like that rarely get taken well.
