  • I hate people who DON'T READ

We have VoIP phones so they require a constant connection to the network (RJ-45). If one goes offline for more than a few minutes an alarm goes off and I get a ticket to find out what's wrong.

99% of the time someone unplugged it. I do have signs on all of them saying "DO NOT UNPLUG, DISCONNECT, OR MOVE THIS PHONE" plus each one has an RJ-45 passthough so you can connect a computer to it for a connection (like how computer modems work).

We also have a teleconference room and that equipment needs to be plugged in 24-7 or else it also will set off an alarm. Again, I have signs "DO NOT DISCONNECT OR UNPLUG THIS EQUIPMENT". On a weekly basis someone unplugs it despire the room having 5 more RJ-45 ports and most supervisors have 8-16 port hubs they can just plug into one for more connection **AND** a secured WiFi network that they can also connect to.

READ PEOPLE!! I have more important things to worry about than checking to make sure things are plugged in every day!

Sometimes people *do* read... but they think it doesn't apply to them, or they think that if they don't know the reason then it isn't important (and there *are* lots of warnings in the world that aren't, which is part of the problem), or they like making you run around.

I've had jobs before where some rules apply and some don't. You might see a sign on a door in the back that says "NO ONE BUT MANAGEMENT IS TO OPEN THIS DOOR!" So you don't open it, but then you find out that rule doesn't apply. Then you find another door with the same sign, but that one was actually true. It's confusing.

Happens where I work all the time. We'll have an emergency, like fuel running out (happened last week cuz we couldn't have deliveries due to a problem with our tanker bay), we'll have multiple signs up... and SCs come in and bitch about the lack of signs telling them that there isn't any petrol. -.- Maybe if they took their heads out their arses, they might be able to see the four signs out there in clear view...

It's worse when you cone off a pump, and someone drives past the empty working pump, gets out of their car and MOVES the cones. Then bitches that there's no hose (someone had driven away with it.).

Or the cone murderers who drive over the flipping cones... then ask, "Duh, why do you have cones blocking the entrance?" Cuz we're closed, genius.

                There, I fixed it.

They didn't read the sign so I took care of the problem.

Epic fail on your sign, it needs to be OVER the outlet, that way they have to physically move it to get to the jack, meaning there is NO WAY to miss it.

I did have it that way, I just moved it to the side so I could "fix" the problem.

You also missed how I fixed it.

I pulled the socket out and then pulled the port from the socket. Then I put the network cable though the hole in the socket, tied it into a big knot (so it won't fit though the hole) and the plugged it into the port, pushed it all into the hole behind the socket, and then put the socket back into the wall.

They won't be able to unplug it unless they either remove the socket form the wall or cut the network cable (the equipment it is plugged into it in a locked cabinet) - either of which can get anyone (other than me or someone else in the IT department - bit I'm the only one in this building) fired.
