  • No water in class

I realize that rules are important, especially in a school like mine with expensive computer equipment and such. But as students paying $35,000 to be there, I'd think we'd at least be allowed to have a bottle of water in class. Seriously, they'll make students leave the classroom to have a drink of water.

Food I understand, heck I even understand other drinks. Coffee cups aren't always leakproof, and I can see not allowing people to bring fast food cups in. But a bottle of water? Really? Because one person accidentally spilled something once? (That was the reasoning that one of the tech guys told us).

Not to mention that this rule wasn't even in effect two quarters ago. They just decided that there should be absolutely no food or drink in class. I think I even heard that students aren't supposed to have it in their bag, which I sincerely hope is not true, because we don't have lockers, so we have nowhere else to store our lunches while in class. I have a feeling that part is a rumor though, but who knows with my school. Besides, they'd have a major problem if they tried to search bags, none of the students would allow it.

Only one more quarter left after this one...I'll just keep telling myself that.

I understand it. The rule isn't there because it only happened once. It happens all the time. Unless you have a medical condition that requires you to drink water frequently, you can go 45 minutes or so without water. The body won't suffer.

      I agree with you, Greenday.

I don't know how I survived almost 50 years of life, all those years of school, and over 30 years of employment without having a water bottle at my side continually.

In school, I used the fountains at recess or between classes, and had my beverage at lunch, and never had to excuse myself to get a drink of water during class.

At work, I have a drink on my break, or make a quick trip to the fountain between tasks if I need to.

      I've never collapsed from dehydration.
      Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

because you didn't have water companies telling you you "needed it"

So "staying hydrated" does not require guzzling water(average adult should urinate 4 times per day), or any water for that matter....

I don't know, it's the fact that it's different when you're an adult being told you can't have something like water. Especially when we have to do presentations and such. Our classes are 4 hours long by the way. We usually get a break half way through, but if you're sick or something having water helps. They actually give people trouble if you happen to have water or another drink for your lunch later, even if it's sealed, They've actually told people to leave their cups outside the door of the class, which really doesn't seem right to me. I know people are going to say just hide it or whatever, but that's not really the point is it?

They are also still doing construction on the school so it tends to be dusty, a lot of my classmates, me included, end up coughing because of it.

And they actually did say the rule was in place because of one specific incident.

It's just mildly annoying that's all. Especially when they're giving you heck for having stuff for your lunch, which doesn't have any other place to go besides in your bag or with you somewhere.

Is the rule just for computer courses or labs? In my biology class, we're not allowed any food or drink for the labs (unless it's required for the lab), but for lectures, we're allowed. However, if it's for all classes, than that's just fucking stupid. I have no patience for idiotic rules or policies like that and have ranted about them in the past. I mean, if you're forking over 10s of thousands of dollars to them, the least they can do is let you bring your own water.

The professors better not get angry about students leaving if they are going to enforce that rule.

I distinctly remember not being allowed food or drink in any schools K-12 in class, and only drank during lunch. The business with not allowing sealed containers in your bags is silly, but otherwise, what's the harm in having to step out into the hall a moment if you can't get through the entire class without a drink?

And, by the way, where computers are involved it's not good enough having a bottle there and only taking the cap off when you're actually drinking. Because they're not *your* computers, and accidents happen: either someone doesn't tighten the cap, or they drop it while unscrewing it, or whatever. It's just a whole lot simpler not to allow them at all.

As far as I know it's for all classes. and if I was reading the bulletin thing right, we're only supposed to be able to have anything in the lunch room or outside. Though they don't seem to enforce that one as far as I know.

I remember being allowed beverages, heck even coffee in my high school. Even junior high, even in the computer labs.

I don't know, the way my school is run in general is getting on my nerves lately. Even more so when tuition is coming up. Paying over $5000 every 3 months is not fun, but that's school I suppose.

Grades preschool through 5th we weren't allowed to have any food or water. Never stopped kids from sneaking in candy though. We were allowed to take any break we wanted to for a drink of water from fountain.

My second middle school allowed drinks as long as they were covered, but no food. They would let us sneak by with candy as long as we threw away the wrappers. Seeing as there were only 36 students in the entire school, it was pretty easy to tell who had what candy, and that person would be punished rather then entire school if they didn't throw away wrappers. (Though on of the groups was so bad at it, the entire group lost their prilvage, even those that didn't do it).

                  High School was covered bottles.

Current Collage: Anything goes, except computer labs. People bring in subway sandwhichs sometimes. Again, do not leave a mess. One person did, and they were no longer allowed to bring in food. They still could bring in water. But the dude left salad on the ground, splattered juice on table and then flipped the teacher off when asked to clean his mess up. (He was eventally taken out of class after his refusal to stop talking on his cell during class).

See I get not allowing food in classrooms, that makes sense. Heck even drinks other than water.

I don't know, I spend 99.9% of my time at school in a computer lab, so it's not like we have the opportunity in another class or anything, All of my classes require a computer for the most part. I'm also 100% sure that every last one of us spends most of our waking hours in front of a computer (waking hours being more than sleeping lately ha!)

Also that kid sounds like an ass. I've never seen anyone do anything like that in my school (doesn't mean they haven't)

My high school was pretty lax about food and drink, well mostly drink, I don't remember people having food very often, but it's been...5 years since I graduated (crap, I hadn't actually thought of how long it's been since high school...*feels old* ) I do remember sitting in the library in front of one of the computers drinking a coffee and no one saying boo about it.

It just seems like a step-backward in the way we're expected to behave. Like "now now children wait until recess for your drinks!" I'm kind of starting to regret going to this school if only for the cost of it compared to some others, though the quality of our portfolios are supposed to be among the best at the end of it, so it's a toss up. I was figuring it out and a class of 20 people makes the school $700 000, that's just insane. And that doesn't even cover the cost of printing and other stuff we need, that's just tuition. *sigh* one more quarter then I'm done, one more quarter then I'm done. and seriously, I'm going to pass out for a week once I'm done...(sorry tangent, it happens when I talk about school)

But see, your in front of a computer. Its been proven time and time again that idiots will not put a tight enough lid on bottle, and that water will spill over the computer and break it.

I must not be average. I pee about 10-20 times a day, if not, more.

At work alone, I pee every 2 hours. I do not have an over-active bladder or urges or pains, and I don't have to run to the potty to make it.

I drink a lot of fluids. Mostly water, but also juices and sports drinks. At home, more Silk and water than anything else.

And I'm not even at the bubbler at work all the time. Just once between breaks or on break.

Ugh, Plaid... I like Subway as much as the next guy, but those subs can REEK after a while. I wouldn't want to try to learn in an onion classroom.
