  • Crappy cover bands

Specifically, the ones that don't speak english. A lot of the music I like is apparently is more popular in non-english speaking countries, and when I'm looking up covers on youtube (I like cover versions generally) they're all done by brazilians or russians or something. They might as well just be screaming lalalalalalala for the lyrics.

I love Utada Hikaru's version of "Fly me to the Moon" as well as those covered by the Seiyu from Evangelion.

I also found a great version of Daydream Beleiver by Shonen Knife

I hate sampling in rap songs. I actually punched a guy when he told me the rap song that stole crazy train was better than the original. Covers are annoying too when the original band doesn't get credit or you mention them and how well the original sounded better or I like the twist the new band added and people you at you like your an idiot.

OH I just remembered the example that hurt my head. Brittney spears doing satisfaction, Its like REALLY you think she wrote that herself, I know she didn't, how do I know, OH abotu 25 years before that it was a #1 hit, so I really doubt she that talented as a child who can't walk to right something that classic

Heh, you can't argue with Trent Reznor on that one.

That's because Johnny Cash SHOULD HAVE written Hurt years earlier. It was just perfect for him.

I also prefer the Presidents of the USA's version of "Video Killed the Radio Star" to the original Buggle's version.

I admit, I end up listening to a looooot of covers since I started liking Vocaloid. Some are good, some are quirky but have their own charm, and yes...some are really, really terribad.

I'd still rather hear a freakishly awful Vocaloid cover than some of the off key human singers I've been subjected to, any day

If you want an awesome cover, have a look for The Cat Empire's cover of Hotel California.

Hayseed Dixie does bluegrass-style covers of songs - their "Bohemian Rhapsody" is pretty awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAWl5peI8HY

Just a quick note for the non-Aussie folk: The Cat Empire is a six-piece band with quite a quirky sound. They usually perform at festivals like Womadelaide (World of Music Adelaide) for some odd reason.
