This. This article here states exactly that.

Nobody's hands are free from the blood of other animals, not even vegetarians, he concluded. Millions of animals are killed every year, Davis says, to prepare land for growing crops, "like corn, soybean, wheat and barley, the staples of a vegan diet."

    Smaller Victims

The animals in this case are mice and moles and rabbits and other creatures that are run over by tractors, or lose their habitat to make way for farming, so they are not as "visible" as cattle, he says.

And that, Davis says, gives rise to a fundamental question: "What is it that makes it OK to kill animals of the field so that we can eat [vegetables or fruits] but not pigs or chickens or cows?"
I also find it impossible to understand vegetarians who eat fish. Fish are living things as well, you know; why do you refuse to eat cows, pigs or sheep, but happy chow down on fish or shrimp?

Some people are veg not bacuse "oh noes killing is bad," I think it the mass consumerism, taking many steps back from what your meal was. I totaly support raising meat and hunting, it's usually a cleaner kill, and I feel it can bring respect to the animal that is feeding. (personally, I don't think *I* can hunt, if I couldn't kill it, I won't eay it )

The whole critters getting killed in crops is sad and unavoidable (unless you grow your own) but crops rasied to feed cattle are harvested the same way.
Unless they are completely ignorant or brain-dead, *most* vegetarians are aware of this.

        You'll love this.

My wife went to a rather "hippie" like college and she conducted a survey for a class.

90% of the people who took the quiz considered themselves "vegetarians".

        Remember that mother.

As for the rest of the survey, "On a regular basis"

        95% ate fish
        90% ate shellfish
75% ate poultry (meaning chicken, turkey, etc..)
50% ate "wild" animals (deer, moose, etc.)
        45% ate pork
        35% ate beef

That's right, even though 95% claimed to be vegetarians, at max, 5% were, maybe 25% if you don't include fish could be considered vegetarians.

My brother in law claims he's a vegetarian. We see him eating steaks and chicken at their parent's house during cookouts.

"These are OK, they're not processed meats"

Then, I catch him eating some salami "Oh, it's all beef salami".

Don't call yourself a vegetarian if you're going to eat meat and if it has a mother, it's meat.

People can be complete idiots during surveys.

My favourite survey was done by Penn and Teller.
They had people at an environmental rally sign a petition to ban the use of Dihydrogen Monoxide.

People really need to be better educated.

That...and if properly taken care of, real leather lasts longer. By that, I'm speaking about old car seats. Many times, the real stuff only requires a thorough cleaning and some "hide food" to keep it supple. Not so with the fake stuff--that usually ends up falling apart.

Lol. I personally wouldn't bother cooking a separate meal; either bring your own food, or eat what you're given. xD

When I go to the bf's, I usually bring something for me. (and usually it gets sampled by all) One of my dear friends is polite enough to have some non-meat munchies for her guests.

As for the "eat what I make or gtfo," if you have a Kosher friend, would you make them bacon cheesburgers? (if that happens to me what you feel like making?)

And to get make to the preaching...I have a coworker who always goes on how "this food is bad, you eat it your bad, its unhealthy, it will kill you," and he is far more unhealthy than me In that case, the preaching is annoying, but I just ignore it. (he is not a vegetarian, the food item can be what ever you want it....story remains the same)

I think someone who calls themselves a vegetarian but still eats fish needs to get a dictionary.

But there are many, many reasons that someone might eat fish and no other kind of meat. Someone trying to control their cholesterol, for example. Or maybe they're an environmentalist and trying to reduce their impact by cutting out beef from their diet. An old friend of mine chose not to eat meat because she didn't like the taste and texture.

It's not always a moral decision.

And women who signed this were stupid enough to NOT know what suffrage is?? I weep for humanity, people have gotten so much stupider over the decades

I am glad it was just a joke and a test of how well people know their history. They were surprised actually they had a couple of women who self identified as feminists sign.

I don't think people get stupider I think there is just more stupid people due to a larger population.

Well actually in that case, it would be easy enough when cooking to leave the bacon and cheese off the burger. Um, my mom has used the excuse if someone is kosher and asks about the hotdogs, yes they are kosher, it won't kill them if they don't know they breaking the "rules", kind of shitty but you would have to know her friend, only really brings her annoying kids and a bag of chips to a pot luck but that is a whole nothing rant I will start.

I agree with hating when people act like im evil for eating meat. When is the last time you saw a lion eating tofu?

OH great story to share my one ex it turns out became allegric to soy after years of not eating meat, she actually enjoys being back on the dark side.

                          EDIT:
New bitching point, I $#%#$ hate "vegans" who are really vegitarians, Im sorry, a true vegan wouldn't consume cheese or milk (ok they can so soy milk). Really mislabled people in general annoy me, your not heterosexual if your male who wants to give oral pleasure to another male, not saying there is anything wrong with it, Just saying we need to ban Dihydrogen Mono-oxide and stop women from suffering!!!!

No, but I wouldn't slave over a hot stove making three separate meals for different people. I'd just make them plain burgers and not add the bacon and cheese. If I'm cooking for people and they are veggie or whatever, they can just eat what they're given or bring their own food. I really don't see why I should have to cook separate meals for people.

Well in the case of a dinner party, it just good manners for everyone to bring a small dish, or at least that was what I was taught. Then it basically eat what you want from there (and side dishes are usually veg-friendly) In the Kosher reference, I should have said some sort of beef-n-cheese caserole, where you cannot separate the dish.

If it was just me being invited over (no party) I'd ask what was being made, can I bring anything, and btw, I eat veggies. Just polite.

If your hosting a party you should make an effort to make sure your guests are happy and taken care of. If it means making a small non-meat dish then you should do that. Its not like it would take much more time and can't be enjoyed by everybody anyways.
