You know - sometimes when I'm reading through people's replies, I wonder just what the hell they've been reading... cos it sure don't seem to relate to any post I've just gone through...

Anyway... yeah - it doesn't really matter what other people think of your grades (BK - I call it 'others-esteem').

As for the grades (and I presume it is a 0-4 system? I'm used to 0-7, where 3.5 is 'conceded pass', and 7 is First Class Honours - 4 is normal pass). The way I look at it - do I want the mechanic who barely passed to work on my car - or the dudette who flew through and knows everything?? How about the surgeon??

Back to the OP - giving out freeby marks... sorta like getting a certificate for sitting quietly on the carpet, isn't it??

      Pedersen & Boozy,

I understand you both were trying to help me. Boozy just meant that I shouldn't let those people get to me since when it really comes down to it, their opinions don't mean crap. A diploma is a diploma whether it is a 2.5 or a 3.5. I don't think Boozy was being uncompationate by saying that.

Pedersen, I do agree though. It really is scary that these people who may not have graduated by merit could end up being our bosses someday. And it does annoy me that they think they are so much better because of their GPA that means crap to me. I appreciate you trying to defend me, but I think maybe you just misread Boozy's intent. I do appreciate you looking out for me though.

Greenday, maybe it will be different when you are going for your first job, but I've found that after awhile, no one gives a shit what your GPA was...they're just happy you got that diploma. The fact that you made it through four years of college shows dedication and perserverence and that's what a lot of employers look for.

They want the guy that's going to stick to it...not the guy that's going to get through the training and flake out.

And I do think the subject matter makes a big difference. Everyone's majors are difficult in a lot of different ways, but I suspect the chem students have to work their brains a lot differently than I did as an art student. My A in basic math is nothing to my boyfriend's A in advanced calculus. Sorry, the classes don't even compare!

And I agree that if the student did not earn the grade, they don't deserve it. I don't want a doctor working on me who passed his exam because the teacher HAD to pass him! No no no...he best have known that material and earned that grade!

Greenday, I feel your pain. I dealt with a lot of this type of behavior in high school especially...I was in all the honors and advanced placement classes and the entitlement attitude was...disgusting. College was the big adjuster for most of those kids...it's sad that the behavior has rolled over though.
