is a major "thing I hate"
I don't have a problem with people offering advice when I ask for it or occasionally giving an opinion as to what they'd do. That's cool. What gets me are these people who cannot keep their opinion to themselves and feel the need to comment on everything you do, as if their way is the best for everyone. It's not. It may be best for them, but not for everyone. Too bad some people can't get that through their skull.
A good example; school projects. There's a reason I don't let hardly anyone see them. Too many people I know would try to tell me how I should do it. What they fail to understand is I'm the one who knows my instructor and the assignment, not them. I also have different skill sets, which *gasp* doesn't everyone? Lastly, I may not care if I get a perfect score. I want to pass and it would be nice, but I'm not going to stress myself out over a 4.0, especially if I know it's something I'm not as good at. I don't need a 4.0 to pass so as long as it's good enough, I'm in good standing. But most importantly, it's MY life, not their's. If they want to do the project their way, they can sign up for the class and knock themselves out. That's theirs to decide because it affects them and only them, but unless my grade somehow affects them, than they have no say.
I get the same shit from people with other stuff as well. The worst is when they come up with a solution and make it sound so much more simplier than it really is. Get a job? Really? Like I haven't tried? You might as well just tell me "win the lottery" because that advice would be just as useful. There are some people who are just impossible to have a conversation with without it turning into how they are right and I'm wrong. Then I spend 5 minutes trying to explain why their advice won't work for me. I can't just talk to them about the things going on in my life, I have to justify my decisions to them (well I don't have to, but you get the idea). What ever happened to just talking about stuff?
