I had a long rant, but I decided to put it in the "pun" thread. I just want to say that I really appreciate how both boards are managed. I've received PMs from mods, and I've taken what they say to heart. This is, ultimately, Rap's board, and he and the mods can run it as they see fit. I've not seen any flagrant abuses of power, and any time I've reported a post, they've responded pretty quickly. Also, fyi, if you're afraid that your post is skirting the edges of what's allowed, you can report it yourself or PM the mods first.

Posting restrictions. When does a site lose the fun because of them?

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

It just is what it is. The owner/mod team has free choice to set whatever rules they want. And people have the free choice to join and participate under those rules or take their business elsewhere.
The internet is a big place. There are plenty of forums out there. It's a good decision to stay away from a forum if you find it too restrictive and can't enjoy yourself there.
I, for one, understand completely that members come and go for many reasons. A reason for leaving isn't even necessary. I certainly wouldn't dream of holding it against anyone for leaving because they don't like the rules, any more than I would hold it against someone for leaving because they are busy and don't have time to post.
If the purpose of the site is to vent about jobs, than there is no need to discuss controversial stuff that we can discuss here. BUT, while the place is free from trolls and flamers, it unfortunately becomes more restrictive, which makes the place less relaxed imo.
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but that's my two cents on the matter.

Ummm Raps sir person he who holdeth the mighty ban hammer of doom *not to be confused with the ban hammer of wrath that Blizz owns* .... is there a way to donate to help out with costs?
One of the boards that is huge into the gameing scene has this option for the members... you get a spiffy icon and a thank you but other then that you are still held to the rules...
Ok no smacking me with a hammer... =Þ

There are several reasons I choose to pay for the place out of my pocket. The main one being that I don't have to. Fact is, I do enjoy the net result of the work involved. The board also kept me sane when I was in retail and fraying around the edges. It's paying back.
As a guy at work said to me a while back, it's a fair amount of money each month. I asked him how much he'd spend on one night out. He quoted a figure of about a quarter of my expenditure. I pointed out that I get pleasure for more than one night out of the same money, as do others. He couldn't fault my logic.
There's a T-shirt you can buy (check my sig on CS.com) and I do have one or two intentions to help defray costs (not advertising), but right now it's not a major issue for me.

Thanks Raps.. for the explanation and for giving a home to vent.
Now I am going to quote a famous line that has graced many an MMORPG boards... Freedom of speech does not apply to privately owned things. It is their sandbox they just let you play in it... and deal with the headache and complaints and the nitpicking and the OMGZOR you are being a hator and bananating me..
We are guests here. We should strive to play nice while at the same time feeling that we can post and have discussions.. how ever if the mods and the admin want to say that I cant use my ... then I wont use my ... because after all... they are the host and its their party they are just being nice and letting me play.
