  • McDs YOU SUCK!!!

For the second week in a row I went to McDonald's on my way over to my friend's apartment to hangout have a few beers and relax after crappy work day/week. Well, they had no apple pies ready AGAIN. I demanded the manager because well I figured he was the root cause, they said "we apologize for the inconvenience but we are trying to cut down food waste". Which makes me laugh because your in the fast food business you need to quit being cheap and understand that some loss is acceptable and that when it is a regular occurrence of not having something well make more or plan around it. I'm not waiting 12minutes for my pies to cook. And last time I accepted the cherry they were over cooked and tasted like crap. Eventually another friend showed up and wanted to do a run for some coke to mix with alcohol, well we stopped by McDs after I called to see if they had any apple pies. The box said hold until 3am.... really 3 hr old time is pretty damn long compared to most fast food things once cooked.

It just pisses me off when I think of McDs I think of apple pie and 2 for $1, well WTF is the point if they never have it. I demanded the corporate # and was given the store # and a name to ask for but they have pretty much pissed me off beyond belief at the shitty service that location provides. I honestly don't want to try them a 3rd week in a row and have it happen again because I KNOW I'm gonna fly off the fucking handle and be worthy of a post on CS. OH they were also out of regular cups as the guy at the window apologized too for having to use syrofoam, I assured him "Its ok my managers are fucking idiots too, when it comes to ordering shit and doing their job its obviously difficult"

Well, lets put in a different light. I understand your angry.

But manager is told not to waste money by corporate or he'll have his job gone.

In Franchees stores, likely manager doesn't want to waste the money.

Not sure what the cost is on pies, I'm sure we'll have someone here who would know that works at a McDonalds. (McDriedel?).

But for our example, let say its 60 cents for two pies. They might have to cook them in batchs. Lets say ten for a round number. So three bucks for 10 pies. Now as they have to replace them what, three hours you said? Before they taste like crap?

Say it starts at 9 pm. Nobody gets those pies by midnight. New batch.
Noone gets any pies. New patch at 3 am. They already wasted 20 pies, costing six bucks, because NO-ONE bought them. Now do that all day everyday.
They already have to pay employees. They have to pay rent. They have to pay food costs. Equiptment cost. They have to have plenty of biohazard cleaning supplies to clean up the puke, the shit in the bathrooms or even the blood that the awesome drug using customers use. So they do need to save every penny they can. It's a business, they are to make money. They are not making money buy wasting it making stuff no-one wants. They are willing to make it, you just have to wait a couple of minutes which your unwilling to do.

So it basically comes down to

    ME WANT PIE! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Uh... sorry sir. We don't have any right now. Just give us some time we'll make it right away.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! PIE NOW! I GET YOU FIRED! THIS IS BULLSHIT!!! PIE READY ALL TIME!!!

See? Not very nice. If they were completly unwilling to make you a pie, I'd be more understandable. Your beef is that they aren't wasting money making stuff that no-one will buy, in the off beat chance someone might buy one or two pies.

I will say that it's nearly impossible to guess accurately how many of those pies to make... and it's supposed to be *22* minutes; they're supposed to cool for 10 after coming out of the oven before being boxed and sold. On the other hand, they're good for four hours and are pretty cheap. It also depends on what time you went through; late night (after 11 or so) there's hardly any demand at all for pies, *except* that sometimes someone will order eight or ten in one car. (By the way, even though it's only $5, ten pies *is* a big order; please call ahead if you're going to do that whatever time of day it is. Because even if we have them, it means nobody else is getting any pie for a while!) And of course the last hour before breakfast starts, the oven is pretty tightly scheduled getting biscuits and McGriddles and whatnot ready.

There are other kinds of pie problems as well: since cooking them is done irregularly, there's not a separate person to handle it. If the manager is on top of things (and if someone else doesn't nearly empty the pie warmer without saying something) he'll call for more while there are enough left to hopefully last until the new ones are ready... but from the grill side, a call for pies generally means "put some in when you get a chance." Somebody has to stop whatever else they're doing, and sometimes by the time they can, they've forgotten all about the pies.... or else they put them in and forgot to start the timer. Either way, nobody is likely to notice until they run out completely or you smell smoke. Or they cook them fine, but forget to come back ten minutes later to box them up and now they're cold, though that's far less serious.

None of which is your problem, of course. It's just that we *did* wind up very often either throwing away 10-20 pies at a time or else running out, with not much to go on in guessing which it would be. If it happens a lot (and twice in a row *could* just be bad luck) then by all means, call; nobody ever believes this, but calling the store manager or owner is likely to work quite well. Corporate's number is on the bags, cups, and pretty much everything else, though I don't know why they present it the way they do: they always, ONLY put it in numbers, even though using letters it comes out 800-BIG-MACS. Which I've more than once had a customer refuse to believe.

Please be sure, if you call that number, to tell them the right store! Otherwise, at best it will confuse a lot of people without getting the problem fixed. I've had two of those that I'm certain of, and no telling how many others weren't really us.

While you're at it, tell them about the cherry pies too. The one you got was too old.

I don't blame you for being annoyed, as long as you weren't an asshole to the person taking the order when you 'demanded' to speak to the manager.

If you were polite to the order taker, then you did the right thing by asking for the manager and directing your issues with them, and corporate.

When I worked at McDonald's it was impossible to predict how many pies you would need.

In fact most days no one wanted one so if you made 10 pies in the morning like your supposed to your wasting 10 pies a day. If you happen to have a day when people want them and they eat through all 10 of your pies your not likely to make more unless someone asks for them.

Not a lot of people get the pies.

Frankly, I thought the fried pies tasted better. Yeah, I know, the baked ones are healthier. But, I don't go to McDonalds for my health. Still, I understand how irritating it is to having a craving for something only for the store to be out of it.

I guess my response didn't post when my internet went out last night.

The reason I'm pissed is that well it was the second weekend in a row at about the same time, I mean really that is just poor planning. and what did me in was last time the cherry pies sucked complete ass and should have been tossed.

Of course I havn't called them yet because I had to put myself in a state of mind where I could selectively use the words "Fucking" and "pissed" but still have a point.

Are pies from McDonald's really worth cussing over? Especially if it was only two incidents in a row? I'm not sure I understand why it's such a big deal.

Also it's been explained quite cromulently exactly why pies basically can't be available day in and day out.

Yeah but it still pisses me the fuck off that they never have them. Actually part of the post that got lost when my internet died mentioned how it was brought up among friends. and they said that location rarely makes any pies at night and it is apparently common knowledge. Now to me it would seem yes, it is hard to keep things up. but when your consistently out of something that is poor planning and not a freak, we had no idea.

The management seems to forget that while waste can be controlled it can't be eliminated. And also, in my view, the fact that if the pies cost them .60 for two and they never have them, how much money are they going to lose when next time I'm driving by for food and me and my friends say " Fuck McDs they never have pies". As it stands I pretty much want to write off that location because I never have even a decent experience. Usually something goes wrong.

                    edit:
I don't think it is to much to ask that one time they be able to complete and order in a timely manner. Also maybe I'm impatient but um, honestly would you wait around in the drive thru for 20 minutes while they made something? At my work if we don't have your smokes you get a gift card for the inconvenience.

So why not give them a call a half hour in advance, and it be ready for you by the time you get there?

Again, if they never sell them, they won't make it.

So yeah, if they go for like, a month, without a single sale, it stands to very good reason to them, that they likely will not sale any at those times, so guess what? They don't make it, and save money and product for the times they DO sell. Because if they make it and have to throw it out, then they won't have any for the times they DO sell.

They aren't that much healthier; "baked" SOUNDS healthier than "fried," but they're still full of oil and whatnot. The biggest difference is that the baked ones are *easier* to keep around consistently. 12 minutes to cook, 10 to cool, hold for four hours; whereas the fried ones, while they only took six minutes to cook, had to cool 25 before they were safe to eat. And they were only supposed to hold them 90 minutes *including* cooling time. If sales and raw product cost are anything near the same, which would you rather sell?

Oh yeah from a financial standpoint I can see where they'd go with the baked pies. I'm not quite so egotistical as to think they're going to suddenly start carrying fried pies again just because I like them.

KFC and Krystal both currently have essentially the same thing as McDonald's old fried apple pies, though they both call them turnovers. I had some today for lunch

Hey, THERE's an idea for the OP. I don't live near a Krystal, but aren't KFC's pretty much everywhere? It's worth a try.
