  • Posting Semi-Nude Pictures

So I must warn you, this is another semi rant about my sister and what questionable thing she's done.

Little background. My younger sister has model appeal. She's pretty and has an awesome body, of this I'm not going to deny. But unfortunately, she often doesn't stop and think about things, particularly when it comes to facebook.

Yesterday, I hopped onto facebook and noticed that she had posted some pictures she had had done at a vintage styled photography studio. She looked awesome. It was essentially a 1920's themed shoot where she was posed in front of an antique dresser, wearing an old styled dress, and then later underwear. It was classy and quite frankly was the sort of thing you would see done in any higher end perfume ads.

What I had a problem with was while happily flicking through her facebook album, suddenly at picture 14, she was topless. And this was not the sort of craftily hidden topless pictures, these were in your face 'hello nipples' type topless. I was a little shocked.

    Now, this is what irks me;
-I'm pretty sure she's put herself at risk of having her facebook page being deleted because of the suggestive style of the pictures.
-She has several workmates and our entire extended family on her friends list.
-Her facebook albums are not friend locked (what if her boss finds them?).

Also, my other sister informed me that only 1 month ago that she had been adamant about never posting glamour photos on her facebook. And I also pointed out that this was the girl who dragged me to the strippers with her one halloween just so she could talk to the strippers about my boobs (she's always been more comfortable redirecting attention and embarrassment to me - and sadly I'm used to it from her).
She is still currently not talking to the rest of our family after her last facebook stunt, and so I figured this might be her way of showing us her pictures. Still, I don't think she thought it through.

What do you guys think? Am I being a prude about it? Because the pictures are fantastic and I'd suggested that she create a portfolio with them. I just think it was a dumb move on her part to put them on facebook.

-Not an issue. She can just make a new one.
-When you have family and coworkers at friends, you can no longer be too careless about what you post. It can and will bite you in the ass.
-If they aren't locked, they could end up all over the web. Even if they aren't, they could end up all over the web. And once a picture is posted on the web, it can never be completely removed from the web.

      .... I didn't read anywhere that she is 14.

If she was 14, likely police be busting her door down for /child porn/ and she be banned from the site.

Your not a prude Rebel. Your just not your sister. It's her life, she can do what she wants sadily. You can only be there for her.

There is no reason being topless should ever be an issue, aside from a hygiene issue. People need to realize boobs are boobs and no big deal

XD Does this mean I may see your boobs?

          Kidding.

I'm overworked and it's only Tuesday.

Saw "Picture 14" and thought "Picture at 14" as in at 14 years old.

Someone just take me out to the pasture and shoot me.

And Red Panda, I'm not sure what country/area you live in, but in today's society, in America, boobs aren't just boobs. Wish it so doesn't change that.

I personally don't have any problem with the photos.
              Boobs are boobs are boobs.
And if I was ashamed of my sisters, then...well, mine look pretty much exactly the same and I quite like my boobs.

No, I just had a problem with her posting it on Facebook.
There's no need to and it could backfire on her professionally (she is a school music teacher and tutor).
              Just didn't feel very smart.

That and it seems to be a grab for attention.

Teachers have been fired for less.

                  *clocks shotgun* Ok...

Sorry. Didn't mean to pry. I thought I was missing something. It didn't even register that you could have gotten picture 14 mixed with age 14.

                  Please don't hurt me.

(Unless it comes with free love of girl, that yeah, beat me as much as ya want)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it against Facebook policy to post pictures with nudity in them?

Its pretty stupid for teachers to be fired for the pictures they post on facebook. Not everybody is a puritan who associates showing any part of the human body as sexual

They do indeed. Anyone remember the row that occurred when a woman's breastfeeding photos were removed?

I'm sorry, but your sister is an idiot, and you are not being a prude at all. This can affect her career and her professional future (stripping and poledancing being probable exceptions).

And yes, even if she takes them down now, you can guarantee that someone out there has copies. The photos will never disappear.

As a flaky artist with liberal tendencies, I wouldn't even consider posting nudes of myself anywhere on line, but especially on FB! Not only from a professional standpoint, but to also avoid being stalked by some crazy person.

Anyone remember the teacher who had students on myspace and the title was "drunken pirate", no sight of alcohol in the picture but that alone was enough.

Um, really, I would like to see these topless photos that "aren't sexual", I'm pretty sure pictures of topless women are always sexual when you can see the nipples and what not and nothing is left to the imagination. They might be "tasteful" but um still sexual.

                              Yeah......
The closest I am willing to show you is this which shows the basic facial expression and pose she had (but she had no top on obviously).
I know that a lot would see it as sexual, but I'm her sister so all I saw was 'bored and annoyed and meh'. But yeah, all nudity can be seen as sexual, but so can fully clothed pictures.
Still, it wasn't my sister brightest moment when she decided to post them on a public site. My brother in law has already told her how uncomfortable he feels about it.

Hell, both my older sister and brother (and girlfriend) have had professional posed fully naked pictures taken of themselves. They just chose to display them in their bedroom so in order to see them, you have to enter their private domain. I have chosen not to have my pictures taken yet just because I want to lose a bit of weight first (my older sister's were taken 6 months post baby and she looks fantastic and toned.....bitch).
