This partly fits under pop culture but mostly it's an I hate thing.

This isn't the first time I have heard a public outcry that some new movie is "ruining a Disney creation" when of course the Disney creation in question isn't even a Disney creation but rather the creation of someone who made the character or characters long before Disney was even the twinkling in Walt's eye.
These people need to get over themselves and stop thinking of Disney as some final authority on how we think of classic characters.
If anything the final say should belong to the current copyright holders The Great Ormond Street Hospital For Sick Children who apparently due to a copyright extension now hold the rights through 2023, but that is a different debate altogether.
