  • MIL Drama.

(as a side note, I hate coming up with titles for posts )

I've talked about my MIL before, but I was having a conversation with the BF today and something he said just irked me about her. In my hometown, where my MIL and my mom both still live there is a flea market type of thing that happens every Sunday during the warmer months. My mom goes pretty much every Sunday to sell random stuff and her handmade jewelry. MIL has been asking about getting help to do the flea market for awhile, I assumed this meant maybe getting a ride or just getting my mom to show her what to do, but I assumed wrong apparently. No what she meant by help was that she wanted my mom to just take all of MIL's crap down and sell it for her. WTF? She's the one who complains about not being able to find a job, and not having money etc. Yet she won't get off her ass for a couple of hours on the weekend to sell some of the tons of crap she has laying around the house?

It also annoys me how she insists on knowing where her 22 year old son is at all times (my BF's brother). If he goes out and doesn't let her know where he's going he gets in shit. He was going out with this guy for awhile, and while I did think that the guy was a bit young (16-17), it was legal, and it was his business, yet both her and my BF made a huge deal out of it. My BF thought I was weird for being perfectly fine with it, or rather, not caring one way or the other.

*sigh* family drama is fun isn't it?

Does the 22 year old live at home? If so she has a bit of a right to know where he is going and when he will be back. If not then she has to mind her own business.

I agree with Red. I'm 25 and live at home. Even my 30 yr old brother tells my mother where he's going-even if he's spending the night at his BF's.

The rest is just fail on her part, though.

Also...if the other guy was 16, that's illegal.

I have to disagree, Panda. One of the reasons I moved out just a few paychecks after I got my factory job was I couldn't handle my parents anymore and their groundings and curfews. My curfew was extended an entire hour when I turned 18, stayed the same when I turned 19......and I could still be grounded. I was actually grounded the weekend right before I moved.

He still lives at home, for about another week. But the point is that he's 22, regardless of whether he's living at home or not he's an adult. I'm kind of wondering if the same thing will happen when he is moved down here for school.

Is she actually trying to punish him or anything? Or does she just want to know for peace of mind?

My sister is still stuck at home at 25 years old (kinda doesn't manage her cash well). I'll be home after graduating college at 22 years old in two weeks. My mom lets us do whatever we want, but she'll still ask us questions like where we are going, when to expect us back, etc. It's more just for peace of mind. Also, let's say I tell her I'm going to be back around 2am. She gets up at 8am and sees I'm not home. God forbid I was in an accident or something, she'll know that something happened since I wasn't back in time or didn't call her to let her know not to expect me.

No there's like a huge freakout, and they end up fighting like crazy because he went out with friends. I'm not sure if they ever believed in grounding or such in their family actually. She has ways of making him feel guilty though, which I don't think is right. He feels guilty for finally going to school because then she'll be alone in the house. I mean, okay I get that, but my mom lives alone, and she's just fine, because she actually goes out and does stuff and socializes. Their mom doesn't even want to try, she badmouths a lot of people that try and call her up to do something, not to their faces, but acting as if it's such a strange thing to go out with friends for a coffee or something. I'm sure even my mom wouldn't mind having her around.
