  • "Don't Take That Tone With ME!"

I understand everyone is allowed their "moments", gosh knows I've had enough of my own in recent times, but people like my mom.....really need to simmer.

I had an issue with my car today, but it wasn't an emergency so I did all my errands but then had to drive it almost 30 miles back to the dealership (the one thing that really sucks is anything I have done has to be at that dealership out in the sticks) and take the loaner car back home.....it was already noon and I was having a hard time sleeping thinking of my car and how I just bought it and don't need problems right now.

The whole afternoon while I try to sleep my mom is constantly texting me (yes, I know, I need to buy just a regular alarm clock) not only about her stupid theories on what's wrong with my car, but also don't forget this or that or this or that.....I just keep ignoring them all and she texts me once more "Call me when you get up then!"

I call her and say I didn't get a lot of sleep and I don't like constant texting during the day while I'm trying to sleep, and she just blows up.

"I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU, I'M SURE I KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR CAR AND YOU DON'T SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY! I DON'T LIKE THIS TONE OF YOURS YOUNG LADY, I DON'T CARE THAT YOU ARE TIRED AND HAVE TO WORK, YOU DON'T SPEAK TO ME THIS WAY!"

And this same woman goes ballistic when her FATHER treats her the same way. Don't see a connection, do you?

"Then YOU don't keep waking me up during my night!"

No, I couldn't really say that... but then, my parents wouldn't knowingly wake me up over stupid ##### in the first place.

Sounds like the story about my MIL blowing up at my husband last Christmas when he get mad at her after she constantly teased him about putting on a few pounds. Blas, isn't there some way you can turn your phone on silent but still have the alarm on? My old phone could do that.

As far as I can tell, if anything is silenced, everything is.

I really should go get an alarm clock, I'm just stubborn and still can't wrap my head around the fact that people honestly have no qualms about bothering me during my sleep time, when these people would probably go insane if they were bothered in the wee hours of the morning over non emergency calls and texts.

I know at least most Verizon phones I have played with an used. one step below the "vibrate" on the volume button is ALARMS ONLY.

OR look and see if you have "StandAlone Mode" AKA airline mode that will disable all wireless communcations but still let the rest of the phone work.
              On my phone it is.
Settings & Tools -> Phone Settings -> Standalone mode

So, my alarm works just fine. I can have incoming calls silent, and texts silent. My phone was like, ten bucks too. How come that option isn't on all phones?

Because being able to watch the latest Ke$ha video is more marketable. I too have a alarms only volume setting and, now that I've looked for it, an 'airline-safe mode'. Which is not only handy if you're using your cell as your alarm clock (I do) but also when you use your cell as a pocket-watch in areas where it's supposed to be off for the sake of being polite (school, theatre, etc.)

Used to have this problem with my mom where she would forget that I am also an adult and not a child any longer.

One time she blew up so I blew right back told her flat out that she didn't need to take that tone with me. At the time I was living with her to help her out. One time she pushed too far and I walked out.

After that she got it occasionally she needs the gentle reminder. I have never and will never be one of those people that feels people older than me can tell me what to do and I am supposed to smile and thank them for assuming I am a childlike moron.

I work 3rd shift, and my mother called me like 5 times in a row, I picked up the phone said in a gruff tone "WHAT?" which was met by my mother going "MMmmmmmm oh no you did NOT just say that? What did I wake you or something?" Tho realizing it was my mom, I just sat in fear (Mothers are evil you know!)
