I want to go though the menus so I can watch whatever is on the disc.

I do not need to watch though a mini-movie every time I click on something or try to navigate the menus.

Is that so hard to ask???

    Same thing for Video Games.

Sometimes you can skip the minimovie but it's still annoying.
How about the ones that try to be all artsy and end up being hard to read?

Also I hated the one movie with the 10 minute UNSKIPPABLE documentary with Ben Stiller about the Madagascar movie, I think it was one of the Shreks but I'm not sure.

I hate any stupid "mini movie" you can't skip. That's my one problem with the Zelda games, ALTTP has that 3 minute intro which wouldn't be a problem if they would just let you skip it. Donkey Kong games (GBA) also have a very annoying opening sequence (with the flags) every time you turn the thing on.

Is it really that hard to allow you to skip those damn intros if they must put them in?

hmmmm I do not remember the mini-doc for Madagascar or on any of the Skrek DVDs (I have them all so far except the last one waiting for it to come out on DVD).

what I DO hate is the 15 minutes of "Coming Attractions" for upcoming movie releases/DVD's/etc. half of my DVDs will NOT let you skip over them (although I can sometimes by using the Disk Menu button on my remote

I'm noticing that our "older" DVDs (purchased before 2008) will let me skip the ads. Newer ones won't, not even using the buttons on the player itself. And it seems the newer the flick, the longer and more annoying the ads. At times it makes me seriously consider cracking and re-burning the discs just so we can have them without all the junk.

...I thought part of the reason for buying X on DVD is so you didn't have to deal with commercials?

I bought the dvd, I am not pirating it let me enjoy my damn movie or I will download them where I can just watch the freaking movie.

We rent more often than buy, but my bf and I get absolutely enraged when we can't fast forward through the previews and stupid crap before the main menu. I don't really care if I can't skip the FBI/anti-piracy warnings, but I really don't want to watch 10-15 minutes of previews. It's bad enough at the movie theater.

It's getting so bad, even buying a movie off of digital cable, there's always at least one preview or sneak peek at some show.

This is why I just download it online and burn it to a disc. I am not selling it, so I am fine. I hate commercials and I hate them on my DVD's.

I'm not sure the law would agree with you on that. I suspect they'd turn a blind eye if you bought the DVD in question and then did that, but I think the argument that you're not selling it is not going to hold water in court.

The long menu intros annoy me.

On my Buffy the Vampire slayer DVDs at least the first couple of seasons the intro menus to each episode are just pointlessly long.

I do have to say that I'm a sucker for movie trailers though, I'll watch them pretty much every time I watch a movie, I get annoyed when people want to skip them. I get especially annoyed if I miss them at the theatre, I'm not one of those people that goes "oh we'd just miss the previews" but I digress.

You have to hit the menu button very quickly to skip them - as soon as the DVD loads.

But - I've found some good (and really REALLY bad movies) though previews.

I play some online flash games and if I am trying one and there's a game like that with no skip button, I go back to the list of games and go to the next one.

I'd actually return the movie and if they didn't give me my money back I'd take it up with the studio that released the DVD. Luckily I haven't come across that yet.

It's why I miss my old DVD player. It was an RCA with the feature of being able to hit a random track. You do that and then you can hit menu and get to the menu in seconds.

Sadly that dies and the feature is no longer offered on any player that I am aware of.

After all, who needs a random feature on a DVD player? Or at least that is the mindset of the manufacturers.

So we are left to the devices of those who believe that they should shove 20 trailers of upcoming, currently released, and re-released special edition issues of movies (Disney being the most notable for this bullshit) and leaving us no way to skip to the movie that you already goddamn paid for.

Trust me. I want to know what is offered out there and on the horizon...but goddamnit I'll watch those trailers when I fucking want to. Not when THEY think I should.

And if I've watched it once and want to watch the movie a year or two later...why in the name of Zeus's sweaty nutsack should I have to watch the upcoming trailers for shit that by then has already come out and is likely already in my collection?

Ummm...even downloading a movie is illegal.

                            To get back on subject:

Those mini movies are annoying. Previews are annoying after seeing them once. I don't mind buying a dvd and seeing them for the first time, but after that, it gets on my nerves.

I also hate some of the options.

I just bought Spartacus the other day, and almost every episode has an option where you can watch it enchanced with commentary from some of the stars.

No, that belongs in the special features section, which there is already a seperate DVD for!

And the option for recaps.....look, when the show first came out, every time, it took up 5 minutes of the show recapping the last few episodes. I really don't care to see that again.
