Yes, pot is a drug. So is aspirin. The difference between pot and stuff like heroin is a bunch of things, ranging from.....pot won't kill you. Heroin and meth and coke will. You only get little more than a traffic ticket for pot, prison time for the hard drugs. People who run out of heroin will do ANYTHING to get it, and if they can't get it, they practically die just from not having it. Stoners just get a little bit irritable when they run out. And finally, pot is unlike those others because they have the shit processed out of them. Pot is just...pot. Dry it out and smoke it. You don't cut it and freebase it and cook it in dexter's lab and microwave shit. You just smoke it.

The effects and consquences of pot are FAR less severe than those of hard drugs, so yeah, it's a pretty accurate statement for people to say "it's not like heroin or something."

I'm somewhat inclined to agree with you GreenDay, but there are always situations where people are just out to get people fired/in trouble, or at the very least, throw them under a bus, just for their own gain. It happens at my job all the damn time. It's a damn sport there.

Thus why I said extreme majority. There will always be those douchebags out to cut everyone else off at the knees.

Personally, I think that "telling" on someone is plain evil in many situations. I find those types fit one of two categories:

-Law and Order types. The law is the law is the law. Every law is golden. None of them are possibly bad, overreaching, and all consequences fit all crimes. Disagree? You're a commie and you hate America. There is absolutely zero middle ground. You better not hope laws against littering aren't strengthened, because these people will make sure you get twenty to life for that scrap of paper that fell out of your backpack.

-Well meaning. They buy into the notion that anyone who does any kind of drug is evil and addicted and about to go postal, so they want to "get them help." They also buy into the notion, ironically, that locking them up in a place with actual violent offenders that will...do things...is helping, not to even mention keeping them from ever having a decent job again and the laundry list of increasing penalties these "tough on crime" politicians keep heaping on them. All for what in all reality equates to having a beer on your porch.

I am not a user. I simply don't want torture on my conscience. I'd simply rather that the actual addicts get the actual help they need and leave everyone else alone.

Stoners will also use rent money/food money/utilities money to buy pot instead. Cause they consider it more important....priorities are messed up.

I really don't mind it if it's something occasional to relax...I can understand that. It's a lot like drinking occasionally. BUT when it becomes something that has to be around 24 hours a day and the person has to be high every single waking moment then I consider it a problem. Plus it stinks and leaves crud behind I'd rather not deal with. I hate the crap, why should I have to deal with it?

One thing I can't stand is when people who smoke pot but not cigarettes dis on the cig smokers but consider pot...SMOKING...ok....it's all smoking people. Just different stuff.

Claim I made up a random statistic all you want, it's pretty damn true. I almost never see anyone who wasn't the person ratted out complaining about snitches. Only people I see who complain about snitches are those doing something wrong and getting told on.

I see people all the time who are regular people but they hate tellers. I find it rather confusing actually. People who are regular good people will still be like "Ooooh that guy told on Mike last week! And all Mike did was hold up a liquor store and shoot the cashier. I mean come on! Mind your own damn business and let Mike live his life!"

I hate snitchy people who snitch only to get themselves out of the same trouble that others were in on, like a guy at work who got busted for a pot growing operation in his home, he got out of a felony drug charge for snitching out several of his friends. They were all in the wrong, but it seems more wrong to me to be like "Well fine, you got me, but Susie and Billy have pot, too!" and then bring all your friends down with you.

I guess i don't have a problem with those either. Hey, you let one guilty man go, but catch 3 more? That sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

I heard an interesting take on this a long while back. Someone performing computer repairs on a person's computer found illegal software on their system. Company policy at the time was that they're not the police, so they shouldn't do anything about it. The usual informal policy was to uninstall it, since the claim in court that someone deleted something you shouldn't have anyway would be unlikely to be upheld.

That made sense at the time.

Then you compare to the Gary Glitter case whereby he was hauled into court when a repair guy noted child porn on his computer.

                      That also makes sense.

That's when I realise that it does depend on the offence for me. If it's something minor, I'd be fairly happy to say it could be let go. Something that's currently major, I'd report that.

Aspirin is a drug. So is caffeine. So is alcohol. And all three of those are far more dangerous than marijuana and only one has any form of purchase restriction.

The way we view drugs in America is broken and has been in severe need of an overhaul for nearly a century.

They have no motivation beyond getting high. Same thing that happens with other drugs, it just can't be taken to the toxic level.
Your sample size is miniscule, and your definition of "drug" is inaccurate.

My mother and aunt have both been smoking marijuana in excess of 40 years. They jointly own a business that has been running for just as long as well as both being tax professionals every spring.

One thing that must be remembered is not to conflate people who are addicts with people who smoke pot. Yes, there is overlap, but most pot smokers aren't addicts. And there are probably a lot more people that smoke than you know, because the ones who are most responsible are also the ones least likely to be know as pot smokers at all.

I'm quite libertarian in my views on drugs. I would be completely baffled at the fact that we don't just legalize and tax the hell out of most of what's out there if I didn't already know it has nothing at all to do with the supposed danger of the substance itself and everything to do with politics and money.

As for the original topic, if it isn't adversely affecting anyone else, I couldn't give a rat's ass about what a person is doing. However, if their actions are having a detrimental effect on others around them, then I will rat them out without compunction.
