I'm not trying to physically stop anyone from living their life, I'm just saying that if they are going to do that then yes porn is legal and there are mandatory health checks and screenings to make sure that the people involved are safe. I'm not saying that it's ethically superior, I'm just saying you don't get arrested for it and statisicly much safer.

Anyway, yeah, I suppose the actual mental image of parents having sex might be mildly disturbing, but I don't think about it in that much detail. It just bugs me that there mere IDEA offends people, and a lot of time, it isn't just their parents it applies to, it's pretty much every older couple, as if once you're not young and hot anymore, sex, becomes a no-no.
As for prostitution/porn industry, well, I sort of disapprove, but at the time time, I do watch porn myself on occasion (who hasn't?), and I think as long as they're not going around spreading diseases, I can tolerate it. Yeah, I know that things still get spread that way, but at the same time, being one of the world's oldest professions, it's not going to go away anytime soon. I don't have to LIKE it, but at least I acknowledge it and accept it as a reality of life.

Sarah, the few places in the U.S. where prostitution is legal, there are rules and mandatory tests and checks. If legalized everywhere, then I'm sure the rules would apply there too.
As for the OP, I dunno if this may give you some insight, but this is a personal story. I am a sex addict. I have sex to quench this addiction. I am trying to get away from this, but it is hard. As for the stigma attached to it, I guess it depends where one is. In the U.S. sex is still kind of a taboo thing, even with the innuendo on tv. The whole double standard thing pisses me off too. Men can have all the sex they want and they are "studs" and are admired by their fellow men. Women who engage in sex, even once when they aren't married, are sluts, but if they don't have sex, they are prudes."It's after Jeopardy, so it is my bed time."- Me when someone made a joke about how "old" I am.

Frankly I don't see the problem with prostitution. I have never done it myself but would not have been against doing it if I had to to survive. I just wish it wasn't illegal so it could be safer.
It's the oldest profession for a reason......why must we continually fight it?https://www.youtube.com/user/HedgeTV

I'm aware of escorts and higher end ladies of the night (like at "The Bunny Ranch") are picky and extremely expensive, but I still wouldn't do it. No way. No how.
It's still a guy who is not my boyfriend or husband or even someone I give a half shit about. That bothers me.
When I was in that bikini contest and in that overall contest to be the local radio station's Rocker Girl, I honestly had to question myself several times if I even wanted the prizes so much that I'd be willing to be oogled at events that the station hosted. I said no. That wasn't the only reason I dropped out, or even the main one, but it was a reality check.

Yeah, just because YOU wouldn't doesn't mean it makes THEM any less a person.
I wouldn't work as a telemarketer or for a company that manufactures cigarettes for any price.I have a drawing of an orange, which proves I am a semi-tangible collection of pixels forming a somewhat coherent image manifested from the intoxicated mind of a madman. Naturally.

Where did I ever say prostitutes/madames/escorts were less than people, please tell me.
Although I will say that I think overall legalizing everywhere of prostitution again would be taking a huge step backwards. Women have not fought for all these years for equality/equal pay/equal job opportunities just to then go back to where it all began.

How is it a step backwards? Legal prostitution doesn't mean mandatory prostitution, it just means that some women (and men, for that matter) will be able to make that choice without becoming criminals, thus benefiting from a substantial amount of protection. This would be a tremendous step FORWARD for prostitutes, and wouldn't at all affect those who are not prostitutes.

Wait..ok I sort of agree with Wingates..but I have to question this. Isn't what you are saying a double standard? I mean, just because you think something is ok, doesn't mean Blas has to. So by questioning Blas' standard, isn't that sort of hypocritical?
Sex is natural, not like some religions might have you believe. It is not evil or wrong, or etc. That is MY belief, however, and to each their own. I personally would not visit a prostitute, but again .. each their own. Blas doesn't come off as "I am better then they are.", but just stating that she herself would not do it. Which is ok. Or am I just reading everything wrong, and should butt the heck out?
Edit : For the record, I am for legalizing prostitution. For many reasons. 1) The safety of those involved. Forcing prostitution would drop drastically if it was overlooked by a regulating body. 2) Economic just to name a couple. Again, not something I would ever personally use, but if regulated right wouldn't exactly harm anything either.Last edited by Mytical; 10-06-2010, 11:53 AM.

On one hand, legalizing prostitution would initiate a lot of standards and safety measures - which would be a good thing. On the other hand, I'd really rather that the young women of America didn't think that selling their bodies was a good way to make ends meet.
Although, I suppose that's preferable to the girls who just hook up with whoever. I mean, at least a hooker gets paid.
