  • Misuse of the word RAPE (frank wording of bodily parts)

A thread on CS.com made me pop over and begin this mini rant.

Rape is the insertion of the penis to any orifice (oral/anal/vaginal) without consent, it is not a word to be bandied around because of a price change, it is not because you can't handle not getting your own way.

Those who have been raped *are* traumitised, it is quite possibly the worst offence that can be commited against a person (IMHO worse than murder as the vicitm has to live the after effects), it has destroyed people I know adthey have never recovered to pre attack.

Why do people feel it necessary to devalue such a strong word with such emotion behind it by trying to attack a corporate policy?

    To quote CS.com's policy...

Nothing to report. I think he's referring to a thread in the PFB section. Its the PFB letter writer who used the term inappropriately.

Ah - if so then nothing really for us to deal with, but it appears we agree on the usage of said term.

Heh - I said 'bollocks' in the site rules. Hehe!

My apologies, I should have explained it better, it is as Boozy states, a (in)complete idiot on PFB and I figured here is a better place for my rant than CS.

Raps, what dictionary are you reading because mine only defines rape as unlawful sexual activity ( plus the plant, the six division of Sussex (wtf?), and the refuse of grapes after wine making)?

There are dictionaries referring to the rape of countries during war, plunder, pillage etc. Dictionary.com has that one. We had someone on CS.com continuing to use the word to refer to bank charges with that word and they ended up banned - not just for that, but it was part of the overall problem.

The word, I believe, is "rapine". http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/rapine

It does get shortened to "rape" but "rapine" is the original term.

This happens in gaming so frequently. I don't think there's a bigger sign of being a dbag than using it incorrectly, being called on it, and then making excuses.
