I hate that attitude. At the very most I'll have 2 drinks every few months, usually 1. I have never in my life been drunk, I never saw the point. The drinks I have are because I like the taste, like a glass of wine every now and then. The thought of going out clubbing and drinking doesn't sound like fun to me at all, especially after seeing pictures of the inside of clubs, far too many people for my tastes, I get nervous and annoyed in a busy mall, I can't imagine if I was surrounded by people who are drinking. Some of my friends keep insisting that I would love clubbing, despite my protests otherwise.

You do not need to drink to have fun, I have fun all on my own without being drunk off my ass.

I know, right? That's the bit that got me, too.

I'm pretty sure most people don't need to drink to have fun or to be fun to be around, but I understand why some people think that they do.

I usually don't need to drink to have a good time, but there have been nights when I've realized that I need a drink or two to take the edge off, or I'm not going to be able to relax. If the stress of the week has got me tightly wound, and I've got friends coming over on Friday night, I'm going to get a little buzz. It puts me into a social mood.

Me too. I respect someone's wish to not drink, but don't automatically assume that all drinkers are out to get drunk. If I'm out with my friends or at home trying to unwind after a shitty week, nothing does the trick like a few rum and cokes.

Boozy, AA - that's very similar to my own philosophy. I don't assume everyone who drinks is an alcoholic. I respect the decisions of other people when they choose to drink, and when I do drink on those rare occasions, I have 1-2, max. That's just the way I am. And I do know that alcohol can help you unwind at times, too.

I was just irritated at the blanket assumption that because I said I don't drink alcohol, I'm apparently not worth knowing or something. It's hard to put into words someone's attitude and how it's perceived when describing stuff on a forum, you know?

And AA - Rum and cokes are yummy. I like one on occasion, especially with cherry coke.

I too, have gotten that attitude from people over the years - I think the worst was from some 18 year-old guy on the (now-defunct) official Marilyn Manson message board. I don't remember how the conversation got started, just that he said something like "What the fuck is wrong with you? Alcohol tastes good!"

              Wow, seriously?? o.0

That's such a logical and well thought out argument, how could it possibly be refuted??

Oh yes. Miller Light. (which, if I'm to believe those of my friends who drink beer, it is the equivelant of horse piss in a can.)

I would have so been on this one had my power not been out last night. Thanks for posting this, it's a huge one that drives me insane.

I used to drink a lot. I don't anymore. I don't think I'm "better" than anyone, which is another blanket judgement that people throw at me when I refuse a drink or don't want to get drunk.

I hate beer as well. God, it smells and tastes just horrid. Like ice cold piss. And it makes you bloat and fart. Sexy. Beer has more carbs than an entire meal. A lot of my friends drink beer like water and wonder why they have extra weight on them.

I have a few "friends" who are alcohol police. They are one of the many reasons I quit going out, because I would be stalked and screamed at and berated for not getting drunk. Now I have absolutely no tolerance for anyone getting down my throat, as I used to just pass it off as being drunken bullied assholes.

My friend is having a Halloween party this coming weekend. I don't even care what they'll think of me for doing it, if one person dares try to bully me into getting drunk or drinking faster, I am going to cause a huge scene and I swear I will make that one girl cry if I have to, to get my point across. I have made it crystal clear that I will not make any appearances out and about or go to anyone's get togethers if ANYONE is going to start with the "not drinking = loser" bullshit, or like the one guy a few weekends ago asked me "Why did you quit drinking? Do you, like, go to church now or something?" He so deserved a nasty punch to the face. Too bad I didn't do it.

Why, you guys must be wondering, do people keep inviting me to parties or outings when they know how I feel, or that they know I won't budge on my opinions? Well, think about it. You're a loser if you always have to be drunk, and you obviously don't think very clearly. That or maybe they keep wishing I'll change. I'm not even sure. I don't even want to go.

But, some people become *tolerable* when they've had a few drinks. I've posted about my Uncle Dick before, and what a tool he is at times. But, get a beer or two in him...and he's not so much of an ass twinkie. He tends to loosen up a bit, and my desire to stab him in the head with a fork tends to lessen

Seriously though, there are some people who can't have a good time without being totally trashed. I have been drunk. I've been tipsy. It's amusing for awhile, but the novelty quickly wears off. Especially when you're trying to navigate your way down the narrow hallway at the vacation rental...and have to put your arms out against both walls, so your drunken ass doesn't fall

My beverage of choice is either Woodchuck, a Crown Royal + Coke (or Dr. Pepper), various types of wine...and beer doesn't figure onto the list. I can't stand the smell or taste of most beers. The few I've tried...tended to taste the same. I'll stick to my wines, thanks.

The only time I've been fucked up, is when my neighbor had me try some banana-flavored vodka. I was fine right after I took the shot. Not so, about 5 minutes later. That shit all kicked in at once

I don't want to steal the thread, so I will keep it brief. Jack, I don't think you've been around long enough on these sites to hear my bitching about this, but I've quit being DD (well, I do it for a price, now, yes, even with friends and bf you bet they all have to pay for it because they've abused my kindness and patience) because I was constantly nagged, name-called, and whined at when I would be the safe sober ride home. Go figure, I start charging, no one asks for rides anymore. Or they try to squeak freebies. Then I hang up.

Back on topic. I wish you guys lived closer. I'm sure we could all have a great time without getting plowed, and we'd feel fine the next day and remember everything.

I love bowling. No one will go bowling with me anymore. And I'm the easiest person to beat at it, so I don't even see the problem.

I think I know where my ball is, too.

OoO! I found my bowling ball the other day! I'm up for some bowling.

                              As for me ...

I might be named Rummy, and I do love me some Sailor Jerry's Rum 92 Proof, and I do like my White Russians, Mudslides, and chocotinis, and oh yeah, my white wines (or a specific red wine), but as far as beer goes? I. can't. stand. the. taste. nor. do. I. like. the. smell.

My parents don't drink. The only wine I've ever seen them imbibe is the wine "served" during communion during mass. Otherwise, no drinking. Though I do remember when I was 5, my mom was several months pregnant, and my dad went to the local pub and got drunk as a skunk. He was very sick when he got home and was sick the entire day afterwards. Also, I had a cousin who died of 3rd degree sunburn because he went out, sold his blood/plasma for money (this was the 70s), got a bottle of cheap liquor, went home, found the house door locked, ended up in the backyard, opened bottle, proceeded to drink, fell asleep in the California sun with no shade whatsoever, burned really badly and by the time his parents came home, he was either dead or dying and didn't survive.

So, coming from a family with that story running around the circuit, plus seeing first hand my dad getting sick from drink, surprisingly, I don't drink that often.

I will, when out with Mr. Rum, and we're celebrating something or other, I'll order my rum & coke, or my Vodka McGovern, or whatever. Even at home, I'll open a bottle of wine and we'll share it. However, I do not go out and purposely get drunk and I don't drink a bottle of wine by myself.

Heck, when I was single and hung out at the local bar on Friday/Saturday nights (a friend of mine used to perform there), I'd bring a book and set up at either the far end of the bar or at a corner table and enjoy myself. Of course, I was "weird" for bringing a book & not drinking lots of alcohol, but the bartenders were awesome (sisters) and my friend always teased me, but just liked the fact I'd come out to see him.

Now that's just wrong to die of a sunburn That should not be the way someone dies!
