  • spending a lot of money on halloween and...

having the person who is the "other half of your costume" basically back out at the last possible minute after planning and buying props since february. I've spent close to $400 on props for this year's halloween costume.

It needs to be two people, otherwise it's stupid and makes no sense.

And the co-worker I was planning it with was on "medical leave" for two weeks, came back for a week, and is now on "medical leave" again for two more weeks. No one but management has any idea what's going on with her, and due to HIPPA, they can't tell us. Thing that annoys me is I specifically asked her a week ago if we were still on for this(as she had just gotten off medical leave) and was told-yes. Now if you're too sick to work for two weeks obviously you won't be going out-yet there is no way to contact her. No house phone, no cell phone, and her computer died last week.

If she had told me last week I could've gotten another person or gotten a back-up costume(husband is going as cobra commander-I could've gone as "the Baroness"-cannot pull that together in two days), instead I've got nothing, everyone already has their costumes/plans made. I should've known from past plans, anything and everything I plan goes to hell at the last possible minute.

This just totally blows. I love halloween, and freakfest-which is the biggest city sponsored halloween event pretty much in the country. TMZ covers it every year for pete's sake.

I know the feeling. I'm scrambling to get my costumes ready for this year's convention, which is on halloween weekend. A long time ago, my friend and I made plans to share a hotel room together, but a couple of weeks ago, she backed out, saying that her share of the room was "a lot of money!". 90-100 bucks. That's what I told her a room would cost many, many months ago. She has had ample time to save, but nooo. I guess she blew it all buying used books and other stuff. Now at the last minute she backs out and leaves me in the lurch. So no hotel room for the con. Instead I have to get rides back and forth, which sucks.

I can relate on spending a lot of time and money on costumes. I estimate that my Shaak Ti outfit has over 100 hours of work in it, a great deal of that in leather alone, let alone sewing.

It sucks that there is absolutely no way to contact your partner, that really blows.

I hate when people pull things like that. That person owed it to you to be honest with you and not just ditch you.

Might it be easier to get your husband to be the other half and pass on Cobra Commander to someone else?

The situation sucks... but then, "backing out" implies choice, and if your other half in this is also missing a month of work, it hardly seems voluntary.

(I spend all my money for Halloween on candy. Just in case anybody comes by, which they don't do so I get to eat it )

not in any manner possible-it's a set of twins from a movie-one twin wouldn't work at all

again it's "twins" so him being 6'2" male(I'm a 5'5" female) and not having the right clothes at all for it-wouldn't work-plus he hates the movie and wouldn't be caught dead dressed like that.

I never spend money on costumes. I don't have anything against anyone who does, I guess it's just been drummed into me as a child to be creative with what I already have and work my clothes into a costume. XD I've never gone as part of a group or as a couple; I don't think I could stand it. At the party I and my fiance are going to, I'm going as a catgirl and he's going as Alice Cooper. XD Neither of us have spent much cash working out the costumes, but we know we're going to look good.

But yeah; it sucks when someone does that at the last minute. If a friend did that to me, I'd never speak to them again.

Honestly that is what I usually do(I've been a fortune teller, Laura Croft, Alice from resident evil extinction, a mobster, slack from land of the dead)-however I got rid of a ton of clothes in the last couple months, all I really have are maybe two pairs of jeans, a few pair of cargo pants, and some t-shirts and plain hoodies....and the money was spent on props-yeah I could've easily done the same costume with what I have in my closet, but the props would've made it easier to tell who we were supposed to be-I don't do things partway. Heck with the Laura Croft costume I spent 4 hours making functioning leg holsters out of electrical tape.

I was The Unknown Comic one year... Talk about a cheap-o costume.

Sorry your partner flaked out on you. That always sucks.

If we were closer to one another, I'd try to help ya out.

I need friends who want to do something other than get smashed on Halloween.
