People getting pissed because a thread isn't going the way they think it should

^Oooh yeah, it happens in abortion discussion threads a LOT. To the point of I know a lot of sites explicitly ban discussions about abortion and other "controversial" topics, just because of stuff like that happening and emotions running too high.

I don't know what you do about it. In my example, it was a little different--the mods there ARE quite active and involved, and you still had to be careful not to hurt her since she was already hurting, it was more pointing out that hey, other viewpoints and experiences exist and if you feel like you can't deal with that, then don't respond to those posts.
