This doesn't really surprise me considering the other crap Walmart pulls.

What is Wal-Mart's dress code, anyway? I didn't see it stated anywhere in the article, and it's been quite a while since I've been in a Wal-Mart to notice what employees wear. If the dress code states that employees have to wear a company shirt or something, then yeah, I can see where wearing any non-company shirt is against the dress code. But if the dress code says they can wear anything under the blue vests, then I don't understand why a Marines shirt is any different than any other shirt.

Last I bothered to look, their dress code seemed to be "anything decent that fits under your vest." Of course, that may have changed.

Last I knew (as of about May of this year): plain blue shirt and khakis. Unless it is a special day (where one can buy the ability to wear casual clothes for like $1/day).

So, the lady was out of dress code. How are they "fucking fascists" for following their own rules? It was a USMC shirt, sure, but, if I wear a USMC shirt into my work outside of casual/special event days, I'll get sent home to change.

My mom works at Wal-Mart, and the dress code at her store requires them to wear blue shirts with khaki pants. I used to work at this same store, and when I was there, they still wore the vest, and you could wear pretty much anything you wanted under the vest, as long as it wasn't obscene in any way.

As sucky as it may sound, if she really was breaking the dress code, and no special provisions had been made for that day, then the manager probably had a point.

So there's a dress code, she broke it, her co-workers acknowledged the store's version of the story and not hers, which somehow makes Walmart facists...

                Right...

They may have just been following their own policies, but all they really accomplished is ending up on the news in a not-so-good way.

As I always say, just because you have the right to do something, does not make it the right thing to do.

I worked there until early 2009, and as of that time we were allowed to wear blue or green shirts, and khaki or brown pants. For special days like Veteran's Day, we were allowed, and even encouraged, to wear shirts that fit the occasion. It may have changed since then. But the lady was wearing it under a blue work shirt, so there was no reason to send her home. It looked like it had a zipper, they could have just told her to zip it up if it was that big of a deal. As for the "coworker" who backed up the manager's statement, it could have been another manager (they always have each other's backs), or a buttkissing associate. I'm not inclined to believe them. In any case, I know how they are; I saw things go from bad to worse in the nearly 4 years I was there. It's a power thing.

Wal-mart's dress code is simple, for cashiers and floor personal it is dark blue shirts with no large logos, no sayings etc. and Pants that run the khaki brown gambit. This doesnt make them any better or worse then any other company except people like to use them as the boogy man.

On certain days you can spend a dollar to wear jeans and that money goes into either the store's employee fund or at least at my store it goes to the children's miracle network. I love how people think the AM needs beat, or that wal-mart is fascist because they require you to dress a certain way. If the shirt was not visible under her work shirt then there wouldn't be a problem.

Wal-mart is not a perfect company but fuck I am tired of people ignoring the good they do, or what they do for their employees or the community

I work for Wal-Mart and I'm failing to see where management went wrong here. They're very clear about what we can and can't wear, and at my store we don't even do the $1 casual Fridays anymore. While I feel bad that the employee was so upset by what happened, she really should have known better. Since the company implemented the blue/khaki combo, they've been pretty clear that both the pants and shirt have to be plain, with no logos or designs.

Exactly. I'm sure it's in there somewhere, that when Wal-Mart hires someone...that they agree to whatever the dress code is. Many companies, including mine, are like that. Don't like it? Then don't work there.

That word I do not think it means what you think it means.

Don't you know that fascist now means anyone in a position of power who makes a decision you don't like or agree with?
