Admin, based on my research (wiki and your school's website), if every undergrad was paying just the in-state tuition, they'd be making nearly $333 million a year. Since I'm sure there are people out of state, I'd bet they make more than that. Whoopie, they spend a million on sports. That still leaves the school with a budget over $332 million.

In high school, our football team rarely won. Our band and wind ensemble won Nationals. Of course, the band was cut....so out of preservation (we knew we'd be next) the orchestra protested, marched, and helped get the band back!
That following year, at the FB game...no one talked about the players...everyone mentioned how great it was to see the band
Both sports and arts have their place, but my town was def more an arts town....so stupid to cut the band. Oh well......was many years ago.....
No one talked about my college FB....I think they were division 3? That's bad, right?

But those colleges (high school is a different ball of wax) that are spending money on sports instead of making money on sports should reconsider their priorities in the current economic crisis. Arts programs in colleges are essentially training programs for future artists and teachers. The primary benefit of athletics is the "school spirit" thing that goes with them; that helps create a cohesive student community.

It makes you wonder how much money they receive from alumni donations because of the programs.Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers
