  • You laughed!!!
    You are banned.

    Bwahahahaha!!!
    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Now this is just plain damn scary!

I have this picture in my mind, of you going to one of the Member List pages to ban a User, but as soon as you hit the "Ban" key, you doze off, and it scrolls on down and bans an entire page of Users!

      • Ah yes, the many nights we moderators gathered around after a keg party and played member ban roulette. Good times, good times...

          • I have said it to people who have complained to me before about the mods attacking them. This is a private website, it can be run however Raps likes. It's the golden rule, Raps has the gold, he makes the rules. If you don't like that, this is not the website for you.

Are the mods here perfect, no. Have I agreed with every choice they have made, no. Do I love and feel proud to be part of this community, YES! If I don't like what I see, I don't have to be here. I CHOOSE to be part of this place and in doing so I agree that the mods and Raps make the calls and make the rules. That has worked for me for the last what 10 years?

I didn't realise when you signed up to be a mod you had to become as perfect and faultless as Jesus? I never got that news flash.

In all honesty, I don't agree with every single decision we come up with, either. The big stuff we do, we do by consensus. Sometimes I vote with, sometimes I vote against. Sometimes it's unanimous because the member is doing some really crazy, out of line stuff.

It gives me no pleasure to have to come down on people. I love this community, too. I don't think I'm any better than anyone here, and I cringe inwardly when I have to go after someone. I didn't agree to become a mod because I thought it would be fun being a cop or a deputy. I didn't say "moohoohaha....now I will be able to have some real power over these underlings (ha ) ).

I agreed to become a mod for one reason and one reason only: I have been enjoying CS immensely for many years. It has been a great source of free entertaniment, a pressure valve, and now that I am unemployed, a great source of adult companionship during my sometimes lonely day. As such, I owed Raps some help with it's upkeep when he came asking if I could help out. It was the least I could do to thank him for the use of the site.

The above says a lot about why we selected certain people to make the offer to. One of the big turnoffs for us when pondering another potential recruitment drive is anyone who asked for the position.

Had similar to that some time back, actually, along with other nazi references. Any sort of alleged attempt at dialogue with that sort of accusation leaves the wrong sort of impression, don't you think? As a team we were described in less than flattering terms, and then the email had a demand for an explanation of things we don't discuss outside the moderator section.

The clincher for me was that this included the assertion that the person no longer felt welcome at CS.com. As a side note, yes they had been banned previously and are still banned. There's no way I'll entertain a discussion of internal policy with someone we had to exclude from the board permenantly. They're not worth the effort.

                    • I always wonder why people who have been banhammered will always try and return to a site with endless new accounts... a site that they have said that they hate so much and is run by Nazis. Yet they always have to return. XD There's someone on the forum I admin who's returned again and again and every time I see her IP, I reban the account. XD

                      • You can also factor in that I had customers way back when who always wore long-sleeved shirts and blouses in the hottest weather. Got to see a couple of blue tattoos on wrists on occasion. Comparisons of nazism do not go down well with me.

Have to agree, though - when they claim to be speaking for the members as a whole, you know that there's no way you should entertain them. No point in attempting a conversation.

                          This.

If it weren't so pathetic, I'd be endlessly fascinated by it.

There's an old phrase that comes to mind, and it usually applies to matters of the heart, but I think it sort of applies here too:

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference."

It's so true. Why spend so much time trying to get back to a site you hate and why obsess about people you've referred to as nazis and worse?

Personally, I really don't get upset about being called names if I've done something to deserve it....and trust me, there's been times in my life I've deserved it. But, like Raps said, referring to someone as a 'nazi' is so fucking offensive. It trivializes the people and families of the people who actually survived that atrocity.

                          • Well, many of the worst SC's scream that they'll never ever ever shop at your store again, and it's the worst store and everyone in it is suck.

                            They're back the next day.

Likely the same for banned members.

                            • I can understand it; or at least, I can see a reason some might do that. If you like the place generally, but have a temper and got in a fight with the management, that doesn't mean (necessarily) that you don't like the place anymore, or the (rest of the) company you find there.

                              • The really sad thing is that in some cases, we're happy to negociate in the case of a permaban; for example, we've done so in three cases and all the users who were allowed back have grown up since the events that resulted in their permabans, so therefore are behaving themselves.

However, the trouble user who has a distinctive IP host and keeps on making endless accounts, has actually been offered a second chance once before... and she was too childish to take it up, just threw it back in our faces and kept on making endless accounts. So we really had no choice but to reinstate her permaban and keep on getting rid of her every time she tries to get back on.

She's even posted on her site that she hates the site, hates us, thinks we're all fascists; we told her that counted as libel which is a criminal offence, and she could either take it down or we'd get her site taken down. She chose to remove it. For a while, it seemed as tho she was completely obsessed.

It's this I don't get, but then, whenever I've left a site I've never felt the urge to return that badly; I've left sites I felt were run too strictly, but never considered making endless accounts to get back on. I've got better things to do with my life than obsess over a website/forum.
