  • Jet lag!!!

So I'm here on the US east coast, and I've been in China for all of Thanksgiving week. (Long story short--bf's parents work in Mongolia for international development and decided to spend Thanksgiving in Beijing instead of flying for 14ish hours back to Virginia. So they decided to use their extra miles to bring my bf and I to see them. They only have one child so they spoil me a bit. Who was I to say "no?' )

I thought I could handle the time change since I didn't sleep on the plane ride back at ALL, and we're about 13 hours behind China so I thought I could just pretend like the flight never happened and everything would be fine. But no! It's midnight right now and I think it's 2pm and I could do jumping jacks! Well, not really, since I'm sick with a virus (don't worry, I got a flu shot before I left so I don't have some funky fever).

I'm trying to not take any Xanax tonight to put me to sleep like my doctor suggested....that just doesn't seem natural. This is my first trip overseas and I thought I could handle it, and I know I sound like a whiny spoiled brat who complains after taking a fabulous trip, but boy does it suck!

    Ni Hao!

Welcfome to my world. I cannot sleep for the life of me at night, even if I take dozens of sleeping pills. During the day however? I'm excausted.

I'd still suggest take a xanax though, it may help calm you enough to keep your eyes closed and drift off to sleep.

I don't get jet lag. I don't know if it's because I have traveled so much and I'm used to it or if my normal hours are funky enough without the traveling involved. I spent my 29th birthday in Beijing. Despite its pollution issue, it is a beautiful city.

Even if you prep in advance for the new timetable, it's still going to take time to adjust. Nature is just plain working against you, and it's a hell of a lot stronger than you are.

It's why jet setters recommend if you're doing lateral travel (across time zones) to arrange to be there a day early from what you need so you can adjust to the new time zone.

I'm perpetually tired so I tend not to find it quite a big deal.

Ni hao back at ya!!!! I reeeeally should've taken that advice...I didn't fall asleep until 5am and slept until noon. I guess I should just follow my doc's orders and not be such an uptight "naturalist"

Indeed it is! In spite of the smog, I found it to be quite clean. Have you been since the Olympics? The architecture of the new buildings (performing arts center, CCTV tower, etc.) is astounding. Oh yeah, the whole Forbidden City things is cool too

I was there in 2004, before the Olympics. I want to go back again, but this time I'm hoping to learn Mandarin well enough to get by.
